I was just wondering if the kicker matters in a flush, heres the situation:
kid 1: Kd 9d
Kid 2: 10d 7d
community: Ad 8d 3d 9h 2c
since they both have an Ace high flush, do they split? or do they go to the kicker in which this case Kid 1 would win?

You have to play the best 5 cards you can.
Kid one's hand is
Kid two's hand is
So Kid one has a higher (better) flush, and he wins
The term kicker is misleading in this case. The cards they hold are both used in making the hand. In another situation:
Player 1 has
Player 2 has
Board is
Player one's hand is
Player two's hand is
Player two would win because he has the best hand either of them can make.
If we change the board by one card though...

Now...
player one's hand is
player two's hand is
They both hold hands of the same value and they will split the pot.

I signed up here to ask this very question...
I think your answer is wrong, the Ace plays and a flush is simply five cards of the same suit, if there is an Ace on the board then you have a flush to the Ace, it doesn't matter what's in between, at least, that's how i play. Am i wrong?

You are wrong.
The rules specifically state "best 5 card hand."
Not the best name for a 5 card hand. (But I have a flush, ace high! Me too!)

Smithers, use the amnesia ray.
You mean the revolver, sir?
Precisely.

Curt, but correct.

I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.

Best five card hand.
Pretend like they were all different suits.
AK983 would beat AT873.

I just wasn't sure how that worked with a flush, good to know.
Just to clarify what if:
Player a: K,5,4,8,2
Player b: Q,J,4,8,2
All same suit, player a would win correct?

yes player A would win becuase he has a King high flush; player B has a queen high flush.
And to the first answer Kid 1 wins.
