Starting a session off like this a few weeks ago would have sent me on a HUGE downward spiral. But today I just kept my head calm and reminded myself that I had gotten my money in good and just kept churning along and made the day a wash. Sure I'd prefer to be up 5 buy-ins but I'll take the W and be happy with my play.

I'm right there with ya bud. My last 2 sessions have started off that way.. villain hitting whatever 1,2,3,4 outer he needed on the turn/river every time for the first hour or so. Mental toughness is definitely the most underrated poker skill.

I had a horrible session last night. Ended down $4.08. However, had the cards fell right, I should've ended up way more than that.
Had AK busted by AQ twice both for full stacks... one for runner runner flush and the other caught a gutshot on the turn after pushing all in on the flop.
Worse, I ran into As three times last night... twice with me holding Ks and once with me holding Ts on a board of unders. To only be down $4.08 (less than a full buy-in for me) after the madness that was yesterdays session felt pretty good.
I may've considered my Ts hand slightly tilty. But after both AK v AQ losses totalling over $10 total less than 10 minutes apart... I considered it a small victory not flipping out right there.

I'm right there with you man. All of those beats were to runner runner crap were I'd stacked off pre-flop with a far dominant hand. I had one were a 60/10 donk pushed from MP with A3o and I re-pushed with my AA from the button to isolate and the 45/35 donk in the BB decided to play with JTs and caught his straight on the river. Just had to keep reminding myself that I got in good and crap like that is out of my hands.

Hmmm ... I had a horrible session last night and finished down $286, and I only play 50NL. Thats almost 6 buy-ins.
I think you need to redefine "horrible". A very wise man once said, one day you will run worse than you ever thought possible. And then one day after that, you will run even worse again.

My referring to my horrible night was more in reference to the number of bad beats/hands played rather than my end result of being down what I was. I've done way worse than $4 in losses. I added that so as to note later that despite those beats (plus other not-so-sizable losses), I kept a cool head and managed to win back enough to only be down that much.
And you're right. It's definitely relative. I'm maybe two months in. Not a lot of experience in terms of how bad things can get.

Wow its like your reading my mail. We were playing live 1/3 NL
My wife and I both play and we both had a terrible session last night... figure how that happens since we were both at different tabbles. I feel your pain.
When we compaired notes on the way home it seemed like we were just catching enough of the flop to stay to the turn.
Some times I would just rather miss the flop compelety than to catch a piece of it and give me false hope.
We were beat too many times last night by miracle draws but keeping a cool head there is always tonight.
Lost with QQ,JJ and KK. Could never bet anyone out of a pot they all just kept calling and calling any raise.
One player called all the way to the river with 6-8os and got a full house on the river.
