This thing was idiotic. Unlimited rebuys for the first hour. One player at my table literally rebought probably two dozen times because they were going all in almost every hand. Basically an all in fest for the first hour of play, which was totally ridiculous. And a lot of 3 and 4 way all in pots which were huge.

I can't play in an environment where there is no control over skill, it is just who sucks out the most. Unbelievable.

Don't whine, adapt.

It sounds like the 70FPP PS SnGs where everyone's all-in constantly. I basically just wait for TT+/AQ+ and giver! Yeah you're gambling, but you gotta open yer range a bit vs maniacs of that caliber.

Don't play rebuys if you aren't prepared to rebuy.

I've bolded the most important aspect of what Dozer said. If you play rebuys then you must be prepared to rebuy anything up to 7 or 8 times depending on the style of the tournament, size of the field and prize pool.

I'm going to try and attract some rebuy experts to this thread because I am normally a FR player myself.

FWIW, I think that you should give yourself a realistic chance to win the tourney. Depending on how many entrants, and the blind structure, and the skill of the other players. Say, I think I am on of the top players, and I know I can outlast the field. I give myself 5% to win, and 20% to make the FT. If the rebuy is .5% of the max I can win (rebuy is $1, and 1st place gets $200, 9th gets $40), then I should be able to use an EV calc to figure this.

(.05*$200)+(.15*$40)+(.8*-x)=EV

[edit] --Your actual EV will be slightly better than this, because of the 15% that you make the final table but don't win, you will make more than the $40 some of the time--

Where x= the total amount of the buyin + rebuys. If you end up with a +EV you should be fine.

I don't usually trust my math as much as my reads though, so I don't get much practice at it. I would like to get someone who has done this calc for rebuy tourneys to check that.

That's a good way to look at things. At the final table was a guy from my original table who rebought probably 20 times while I was playing but each rebuy was .80 and $1 buyin to win entry into a $64 tourney. That's probably +EV. Even if he rebought 40 times it would still be worth it.

Sounds like every other rebuy tournament I've ever played in... just par for the course.

I don't think so. For him to do this, he would have to think that he wins more than 40% of the time I think.

The math here really doesn't work out. You're not using how the other ITM places affect your EV. FWIW, you probably are more likely to get 5th than 9th if you're better than the field. That said I dont know where you got 20% FT at but that is entirely dependant on the field size. On top of that I highly doubt you win a it 1/4 you make the FT.

I honestly just threw out numbers to fill in spaces. I assume that the numbers will differ from what I used in my example. Also, I was pretty much full of crap. That's why I asked for your help jeff. I really appreciate it man. Is there a given expectation equation for number of rebuys in a given tourney?
