Post subject: Jack/ 2 Clubs VS Jack/ 2 hearts

Tonight, I was playing holdem with some friends and I ended up with Jack, 2 suited clubs and the other had jack, 2 suited hearts, the 5 community cards didnt help either of us out. Some people said that there were reigning suit values but we just split the pot.
Is there a winner in this situation? Or did we do the right thing in splitting the pot?

In games with no community (7CS), it is possible (though highly unlikely) for two players to hold identically ranked flushes. In that case, I believe suit rankings come into play. I think the suit rankings are spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs, but I'm not 100% certain.
If you ever play tourneys, you'll sometimes see the suit rankings employed when two players hold the same high card when drawing for the button at the beginning of the tourney. For example, if one player draws the Ah and another draws the As, the As will be awarded the button.

Actually, the hand rankings only count in 7CS to determine who has to make the bring in bet. Beyond that, they're all valued the same. I BELIEVE the rank is Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, Spades. Could be wrong on that.
An ace high flush is an ace high flush regardless on the showdown.

For ranking flushes, kickers matter, suites don't. I've lost A high flush vs A high flush before

I discovered this the hard way when an Ace high flush was on the board, I called thinking it would be a split but he has some low card of the suit and out kicked me

While it's clearly stated at the beginning of this article that all suits are of the same value in true poker, and after reading this article, you realize that there are very rare instances where hands will tie down to the last card ( Straights, Flushes, Straight Flushes, it could even happen with a simple Pair). That is why it is important to know individual house rules before the start of game play. Is it a true tie where the winnings are split in half, run-off, or is there a higher ranking suit at the particular poker game you are playing. Keep in mind that most casinos play true poker where each suit has identical rank, therefore it would be declared a tie and the winnings are split equally.
