Hi everyone,
I haven't posted much on here. Never really knew what I would say. Anyways, I have been reading these forums and this site for about 2 years now. I seem to be a semi-winning player. I have studied this game about as much as anyone I have ever met. Read 2+2 everyday read these forums and have read every book on here +. I love this game and want to get more involved with ya'll. My biggest problem I notice about myself is that no matter what limit I play at I win, but once I start going up too much I lose discipline. Not sure why. I am controlled and relaxed for hours and hours when the moving is slow, but when I all of a sudden hit a heater or I lose a hand I "tilt" but not a crazy tilt i'm still controlled but no longer calm. So my emotions completely take over post flop. Has anyone here experienced this? If so, what have you done to control it? I currently play NL 100 buy in.

not quite sure what you mean? I should play with a bigger bankroll? I have a bankroll that easily meets rilla's standards on all the limits I play (except when I take shots at the big sunday PStars tournament because I'm not golfing that day.

just mean that maybe if you had a larger bankroll the losses wouldn't affect you as much...just a thought. and about losing discipline maybe leave a table after doubling up if you can't learn to control yourself?

I started playing pretty seriously recently too, and know what you mean about at times being unfocused/undisciplined for whatever reasons. I'm sure there's more to do, but lately I'm working on simply becoming aware faster when I'm feeling that way, and then getting myself to stop playing...then do something unrelated for enough time that I feel focused and ready to play good again. I also made a reminder post it note for when I play poker that says along the lines of "my biggest leak is tilt/lack of patience and discipline"

Martin, I just saw your post about doubling up...I totally disagree, imo it is much better to learn to stay disciplined. Youre missing out on monster pots if you leave whenever you double up.

it's better than losing discipline and your stack along with it. i don't advocate this as a normal strategy. if you spew money with a deepstack then of course try to learn to stay disciplined, but if you can't then don't play with one.

yea...I'm just emphasizing a priority to learn to play disciplined deep stack, because winning big pots is one of the most exciting things to me in NLHE.

when I 1st started, I had the same problem, double up, and then loose it real stupid, loose it all, and then an extra buy in sometimes. For me, my best advice was to settle down, and always play TAG poker with a few tricks now and then. But for a while I too had a sticky, it said "dont be a fish"
