Do you guys usually buy-in with the minimum or maximum? Strategy? When I buy-in with the min, I feel I play too conservatively. Is there a psychology advantage to appearing to have a big stack? Thanks in advance.

Buyin with max. If I hit a hand, I want a chance to win the max amount of money. It's also easy for the larger stacks to push you off hands when you buyin short.

It's easier to call a big bet on the river when you have a realitivly small stack. i.e. You've got bottom two pair on a flush and straight board and a big stack lays down a 50 dollar bet but you've only got 6 left and the pot is about 45 bucks, its alot easier to call than if you have 56 dollars left and faced with an allin.

i always buy in with the max, and make sure i have the max in my stack or at least have everyone at the table covered. is that a bad thing? i mean, if i sit down and post say $2 for the big blind and i lose that hand, i put the 2 dollars right back in my stack before the next hand. I just feel more comfortable like that I guess.

I totally agree with Fnord and Melinda, if I have the nuts or just the best hand I want to win the most. If your playing solid poker you shouldn't be worrying about your stack or anyone elses. Those of you who believe you should buyin with less are playing scared and are better off at a lesser buyin and buyin fully. I also want the most money at the table so I would never take money off and come back in. As you guys have said you guys are sometimes intimadated by the big stack, so I want to be that persin. Just my 2 cents

You edited the post 3 times and never bothered to tell me how I "dropped the ball pretty badly". Throw me a friggin bone here.
I've seen plenty of times sitting at $10NL and a small stack ($2) limps in and then is forced to call all his stack or fold on the flop. He calls with marginal trash and loses or folds and the cycle continues. I see people play on short stacks for hours on end and only reload once they lose their stack instead of reloading when they still had some chips.

The deeper the money is the easier it is to put down a bet the other player should not call when you have a lot of pot equity. Short stacks can gamble more on marginal holdings because more money relaitve to their stack goes in pre-flop.

interesting - i usually rebuy back up to the max when i get down to ~75% max buy-in.
i think i may have to copy melinda's method and rename it to the "Fishstick Buy-in Paradigm".
