Hi everyone.

These are general questions that might already have a sticky somewhere answering them. I have read the forums quiet a bit and have run into some terms and such that I am not completely sure of. I am going to try and address most of them in one post. These are in no specific order, just asking as they come to mind.

For low stake ring games specifically, what exactly what are people talking about when they say they are "nitty"?

Is there a glossary posted anywhere with all the different terms and abbreviations that a newbie can look at?

What three stats are people talking about when they say they are 18/10/2.5 (for example)

Which hands should I be posting on FTR that will shed light on my game and help me improve? Ones where I get in difficult spots and don't know what to do? Hands that involve high dollar amounts?

What's the most important things to look at on pokertracker to see how I am doing?

What BB/100 should I expect to be achieving on the various limits before I am ready to move up (regardless of bankroll).
2NL=?
5N=?
10NL=?
25NL=?
50NL=?

How many hands minimum should I have before I post my PT stats for evaluation?

Also, my Bankroll plan is $150 for 5NL, $300 for 10NL, $750 for 25NL, and $1,500 for 50NL. Does this sound reasonable?

I will cut it short there.

Thanks in advance everyone, and thanks to FTR for the great forum.. I have learned a ton already.

Nitty: I believe is somebody who plays extremely tight. So if you see them betting/calling, you may want to consider slowing down.

Glossary: Not sure, I haven't seen one.

Three Stats: VP$IP/PFR/AF = Voluntarily Put Money in Pot %, Preflop Raise %, Total Aggression Frequency

Hands to post: Any case where you weren't sure what to do, or sure that what you did right. Or any other hand that you feel like you would like input on.

Most important thing in PT: Depends I think, BB/hr is your winrate though, so that is a pretty good judge of how you are doing. The other stats are also useful to see whether you are playing tight/loose, aggressive/passive, etc.

BB/100: don't know

Posting PT Stats: You can post them anytime, just include how many hands it is so people know how much worth to put into them

Bankroll: Yes, I think your bankroll plan is fairly good.

When getting started the most important stats will be VPIP>PFR>AF and how they change with your position relative to the button

You´ll need at least 10-20k hands in pt to get a rough idea of how you´re doing.

At the micros you won´t get to know your true winrate. This whole BB/100 thing has been discussed to death, from 2NL to 100NL just move up as soon as your BRM plan allows you to. As long you´re moving up within weeks/months and don´t have to grind for food your winrate doesnt matter anyway

EDIT: read the "What the hell does (x) mean" sticky

For analyzing poker tracker. This will give you answers, and then come back and ask questions. It's never too early to post PT stats the first time, since we can look at some basic stats and help there, after that it's about 10K hands for the first while.

As for posting hands, post both the big losers and winners and anyhand that confused you. post 3 or 4 in one thread, no more.

Thanks everyone for all the help! The link on pokertracker was especially helpful.

Thanks Jyms!

One last thing, which forum section should I post my hand? I play 6-handed ring games so I assume I post there? Or would here be best for a beginner?

you can post in either forum and I am sure you will get plenty of help. Most of the serious posters at FTR check both the beginner forum as well as the other forums.

There is a Glossary!
Look in the column down the left side of the page. Near the top there is a Beginner's Guide section. In that section is a link for Poker Lingo.
