Id say they are very important. You can probably double your hourly rate at 25NL by chasing bonuses.

They are more important than I ever imagined they would be. My entire roll of ~1100$ started with 100$ in bonus up front from Pacific.

I made 1300 dollars in about a month from bonus whoring alone. I didn't feel bonus whoring was necessary anymore once I reached 1/2 nl stakes.

200nl = rb time

Bonus chasing is HUGE for your BR and psychological health as well;a bulk of my BR is from bonus/rakeback.

I'll go as far as to say that bonuses is good enough reason to play Ring instead of playing SnGs (because let's face it - bonus whoring through tournament is a b**ch).
