Was rambling on in IRC and thought I'd copy/paste this here for mass beginner consumption:
<spoonitnow> Suppose you're in some hand about to bet on the turn, you're out of position, where your opponent needs 4:1 implied odds to call some draw with
<spoonitnow> The pot is $10 and you have $20 behind
<spoonitnow> You both have $20 behind*
<spoonitnow> The total amount he's going to win is the $10 in the pot and the $20 behind for $30
<spoonitnow> So if you bet $5, he's getting 30:5, if you bet 10, he's getting 30:10, if you bet 15, he's getting 30:15, and whatnot
<spoonitnow> So say you bet $10 and plan to pay off his draw every single time he hits
<spoonitnow> He's only getting 3:1 on his call, and he needs 4:1 to break even, so you're making money either way

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

Hah! He was most definately teaching me in IRC. To anyone who is wanting to learn a shitton (a whole fucking lot), then besides finding FTR, the best thing for you would be to join up on the IRC channel. Plenty of good regs there always chatting and happy to review hands for you. Get your ass in there!

Is it the flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/chat you're talking about? Or another chatroom?

smae kind of thing preflop with sets. I don't mind so much paying off what looks like a set if opp didn't have the odds to call preflop. Obviously the fact that he didn't have the odds pre also makes a set less likely but it's worth considering, and you shouldn't feel too bad if yoiu pay off a set when your opp made a mistake calling pre.

Yep! You should. A few of the regulars in there are Dwarfman, Spoonitnow, yAAwn [Instant Aces], Bbickes, Badgers [absent a bit lately], Andy, mcat, and fatb, with quite a few more frequenting. Definately a good place to strike up some interesting poker convo.
