Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm going to start a poker blog. I thought I was pretty well versed in poker (I am compared to my friends), but after finding FTR, I realized that I'm a complete beginner and I have oh so much to learn.

I'm doing this for a few reasons. First, I can't afford to pay for poker resources (trackers, books, coaching sites), so I'm going to do this to keep track of my progress and what I learn. Second, I want people who are starting out to see all of the mistakes that a noob (that's me!) would make so they can avoid it. And finally, I want to direct people to great resources such as FTR and Grinderschool and to show how I will approach the learning of poker.

Any big hands I want feedback on, I'll post in this forum as well. The only difference is that I'll post in my blog anything substantial that I've learned that particular day, or the book I'm currently reading, etc.

Feel free to browse and I would greatly appreciate constructive criticism. If you are also starting out (this is only my first week of seriously studying poker) and would like to contribute your perils/victories/experiences, let me know. By tonight, I'll be posting a few hands and what I've learned from the current book I'm reading Theory of Poker.

*Side note* I'm a full time business student so my school work might come in between me and the blog at times. I'm going to try my 100% best to update it everyday at the very least. It's set up and ready to go but I haven't put any meaningful posts up yet so please keep checking back.

OP: Beginner to Master

If I bet as a bluff, I should be thinking "am I getting better hands to fold? Is it likely that he will fold x% of the time to a y sized bet to make it +EV?". If I bet for value, I should be thinking "am I getting worst hands to call? Am I ahead of enough of his range that this is a good value bet?".

I think you would get more responses from FTR people if you started a blog on FTR rather than an external blogged that is linked.

Yeah I see your point. I think I might post double (FTR blog AND on blogspot) cause I wanted to create a blog promoting good resources that I find SUCH AS flopturnriver and not just an FTR blog. Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna go set up an FTR blog right now!

Well I just figured out that I need 500 posts to start an FTR blog so I guess that won't be an option for now. I think I should be able to hit that in a month or so, and then I'll basically just import my blog into FTR. I'm writing it in a way so that 2 years down the road, if someone wanted to follow my poker education from the beginning, they could go to the beginning of the blog and use it as a valuable resource.

You could post most of the content from your blog here in an op thread. That way you could get comments from more FTR people than just linking once to your blog.

*sigh* I guess this blog things gonna be harder than I thought. Yeah I'll take your advice and start an op thread but that kinda defeats the purpose of wanting an actual blog. Thanks okiman for the tip.

Well if you want to post anything in the meantime, and I'll put posts on my blog and give you credit for it. And btw. That's an epic profile picture...
