I have heard that although it is not illegal to play online poker in the U.S., it is illegal in some states. Can someone please direct me to a list of which states are legal, and which ones aren't?

I found it one time... and my state (IL) is illegal, as far as I know. The specific statutes are hard to dig up, alls I knows is that all the legal gambling in Illinois is done on boats. Still, I haven't seen that stop anyone. Nor have I seen online poker rooms worry too much.

But of course I'm a law abiding citizen...

So if someone living in an illegal state paid their taxes on poker winnings, they would not necessarily have to divulge that it was an online casino, they could just as easily have won it on a river boat?

All you have to do is declare your poker winnings as gambling winnings. You do not have to state what type of gambling or where it took place.

look on the prima poker/microgaming website. They have some rooms that dont let certain americans play due to state but arent bothered about the rest (where they let you play at all that is)

just google it btw.

I used to live down near St. Louis. Now I live in HI, and I am pretty sure it's legal here. Besides, how often do the police go and search your proxy server anyway.

I live in a state in which online gambling is illegal, pay my taxes and operate under this assumption.
