How can you float if there's no preflop raise? All you did here was 3 out a guy with TPGK.

Floating is done in position with the idea of taking the pot without a showdown when shown weakness, you were out of position and you made a bad call on the turn and sucked out on the river.

 Floating is essentially calling the flop with the intention of bluffing the turn.

I mainly do this against super aggressive players who will think a flop raise is just "playing back at them" when in fact you are. The turn raise is more believable, also it puts you on a stronger hand in your opponents mind.

i don't think leading the flop is considered floating...raising the turn mighta worked better....nice catch - but don't do it too often

Dont mean to join the bandwagon, but they are right. In no way at all is this a float.

You didnt ask for it so I wont critique the hand, but I think this was butchered pretty badly.

i think a lot of posts are originally meant as just a goofy joke and they get taken the wrong way easily. people should keep that in mind while on here.

i don't know what the correct term was, but the point is, i thought he was giving me odds to call. that is all. i knew i was behind until the river. it's not a move i use regularly. (chasing deceptive 2pairs).

Me too. Unless it's done well it's a real fishy spew as far as I can tell. Can any experts give a guide on how to spot the right occasions to float, and the right opponents to float against? (probably in a different thread)

This is something that I have mixed feelings on. Im not sure where you play, but I know the majority of FTRers play at 100nl and below [myself included for the time being, about to take my first shot at 200nl soon] and at these stakes floating is often just going to get people into more trouble. As long as the article stressed how situational it is and the importance of reads and stats I think it wouldnt be bad, you just need to be careful when working it into your game.

I personally would like a guide that went more into detail on what situations are good for firing the second barrel.

Same here. I thought you fired the second barrel against a fool who calls the flop bet with bottom pair, but those fools seem to call the second barrel too often as well.

Too often when I fire a second barrel I end up being the fool.

don't float on people who won't give up QQ or JJ no matter what hits on the board...I am trying to learn to float, with a bit of success, but the player has to be at least decent enough to recognize a slow play (which is what floating should look like, right?)
