The other night, for the first time, I ran into AA with KK in my hand.

I'm in middle position. UTG, who had been throwing out raises every other hand, raised to 3BB. Fold to me, I raise to 15BB. Player to my left calls, all-in short. Fold around to the button -- who goes all-in over the top of me. UTG folds.

I call -- almost without hesitating.

Now, here's what rattled me: I put her on AA, or possibly KK. She didn't hesitate to get her chips in (I was big stack; she was #2). So I figured, preflop, that the best I could hope for was to be tied, and most likely I was behind.

Yet I called.

Did I blow it?

FYI, I flopped a set and rivered the 4th (which would've been more exciting if she'd set her aces, too).

The win notwithstanding, though...did I misplay this hand?

from the sounds of it you said you had aces against her kings? if for that hand nope.

but to raise every other hand, thats an easy tell whether you have anything or not.

id say so, you figure 1 out of 5 you'll crack the AA with KK, and the odds are very low you are in that situation....i pay off the AA in that situation...

How can you say you f'd that up if he had KK against her AA? MAybe I have read his post wrong but how can you misplay KK preflop except going all in? If she has AA ok so what, you hit your set and won.

My previous post about you raising every other hand disregard that as I can see another player was doing that. I hope you got a read on him.

Because he said the only things opp could have in that spot were AA and KK, " that the best I could hope for was to be tied".

Given the read (which was correct) it is like flushing chips down the toilet.

Probably best to hesitate a little before calling any AI without rockets.

I couldnt imagine not playing that hand with an All in unless youe are positive that you have that good of a read on here.

Granted AA is a 81% favorite over KK, but even if she has AK (34% underdog) or QQ (19% underdog) ..

so anything but AA and your a huge favorite, so unless your 100% sure of your read, go all in! .. i'd go all in with 90% sure.

Q. Is poker Gambling?
A. Do you use correct bankroll management?

Good, professional players can lay down KK pre-flop.
We don't play against good, professional players, so go all in. I've gone broke KK vs AA many a time. Don't regret a one.

BIG point: QQ is another story. Too many players go all in with this hand. Chances are unless your opponent is a moron, you are looking at AA,KK (where you are 4:1 dog) or AK where you are only a 6:5 favorite. Throw the QQ away, and wait until the odds are in your favor. If you are short stacked in a tounament, then you have to find a hand and go with it, but in a ring game, you have all the time in the world.

There are some people who virtually have to be holding either AA or KK to go all-in preflop in a cash game, so against such opponents it is wise to lay down KK preflop to their AI. It seems you had a read on her as this type of player, so yeah, you should have made that monster laydown.

That being said, I've only folded KK maybe two or three times in my life preflop.
