really...
i try to get better, but it ain't happening. I've read a lot books, but i cant retain the info given. i read the stickies (and that other i suck at poker thread's advice) and I've read the topics that deal with getting better at poker, but i still get beat ALL the time online. i play with my brothers crew of poker peeps and won at it a few times in the 3 or 4 years we've played, but that was just a freak of nature they said. i pretty sure they have no respect for me as a player because I've done some stupid calls, but i thought for real that they were bluffing.( plus it doesn't help that i drink at the table, but I've chilled out on that.)

gimee some advice ftr...

Don't drink while playing.

Play ABC poker.

Don't stack off with one pair.

a) What cardsman said
b) Start with a ridiculously small bankroll on $2 tables and don't move up until you can comfortably beat that level and have a big enough bank roll to. (~20 times max buy-in for full ring, 30 for 6-max (ish))

ABC means make a hand and bet it. Don't try bluffing. Play tighter than a nun's crotch....

this is about the dumbest statement you can make.

if you aren't going to stack off with one pair start open limping aces for set value. and if that's not working try moving up stakes where they respect your raises. but seriously these type of blanket statements are bad ideas to tell anyone.

LOL @ this thread. I will stack off with AA or even KK with no Ace on the board. I like to get in by the turn so the chasers are forced to pay for their draws. My problem hands lately have been playing too big of a pot with middle pairs (99-JJ) as well as AK. I will usually dump 88-77 by the turn and occasionally on the flop and I play 22-66 for set value. I will pay very little, if anything, to see a turn card with these hands (unless I'm certain we've a got a bluffer on our hands). But yeah, anyway, I suck too.

I find it useful to bet when I'm ahead and fold when I'm behind.

Most of the rest is working out when you're which.
Just playing to improve.

Sometimes it's better to check when you're ahead to allow your opponent to bluff... but that's beside the point

ABC poker: make big hands and value bet them
how is that not clear?
