So I am calculating odds on a draw, any draw and I need to know which is the right way to do it.

Is it good cards/total cards unseen
or
good cards/bad cards.

For example, is a gut shot
4/47 after the flop
or
4/43

Which one is it guys, and an explanation along with it would be nice.
Thanks

TLR is an unknown quantity at this point
Depends on the format of the data you discuss.
If you want to calculate % to hit your cards it is good/unseen. 4/47=8.5% to hit
If you want to express it is a ratio is good:bad
4:43 means - 4 times you will improve to each 43 that you dont.
Those are two different ways to say the same thing

I prefer to work with ratios (odds). Gut shot draw is 4 good cards to 43 bad, so almost 11 to 1 against hitting it.

If the pot was $5 and your opp makes a weak bet of $0.50, you'd have pot odds to call it. Divide the $5.50 now in the pot by the $0.50 to call and you get 11.

I'm constantly doing this on the fly, dividing the pot by cost to call to come up with the pot odds. I think being able to do this, counting outs, and knowing your odds to hit are crucial skills to develop.
On moving up, properly rolled:

I, on the other hand, look at it as 4 outs x 2 = 8% + 1 = 9% ... and since the .50 call is 10% of the pot ... I make the call. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
