$100 NLHE (Blinds $1/2)

First situation:

I'm Dealt KQo in MP and limp (K is a heart).

Flop is Q 5 2, 2 hearts. LP goes all in for 45...I know he's accustomed to betting his draws so I feel this is no exception. EP and I call behind.

Turn is a heart. I feel im screwed on the main pot and I see obvious disappointment from EP. I bet 10 and am called.

River is a K. I push all-in for another 85, feeling that I'm happy with the side pot. I'm called.

LP shows Q3 for a pair of queens.
EP shows 55 for a set of 5s.
I show KQ for top 2.

I lose.

Second Situation:

I'm dealt 1010 with large preflop betting. 4 way calling of $40 preflop. I had position so I called it with implied odds.

Flop is 10JQ, 2 suited. EP pushes all-in for 135. I for some reason cannot lay this down and I call. He obviously shows AK and the board doesnt pair. I lose.

Now how did I misplay the first pot and would you have laid down the second hand with 160 in the pot preflop and a bet of 135? Would you have laid it down preflop? Comments are welcome.

I ended up down $20...not the money that counts, just the fact that I feel I played terribly.

ChezJ is an unknown quantity at this point
hand 1: you should have raised your KQ pre flop to jettison the Q3 guy. also you did not describe the betting on the flop prior to LP's all-in move. surely you didn't check your TPGK?

you probably would have lost your stack on the river to the set anyway but then again maybe not.

The table redescribed the meaning of loose. The guy wasnt folding...trust me. "Any two cards can win." Add that to the fact that I didnt want to put in 5-6BB with KQo.

I'm not sure why I checked the flop. The way I was playing this game was hitting a hand and betting hard...I'd always get callers. I didnt really consider KQ with a paired Q a hand.

opp played poorly on the second hand. Pushing like that with the nut straight? It doesn't make sense.

The same thing burned me at molinero's game once, when I had AJ and flop came AJQ. Guy who's not real good pushes everything in. I'm assuming the made straight would try to milk me a bit, but I assumed wrong. KT for my stack.

EDIT: I just realized he only had a bit less than the pot sized. Not that bad a play after all.

A lot of players do this on the idea that they can make more money this way. If the flop is high cards and likely to hit someone, it comes off as a bluff and the player with two pair or TPTK may be more inclined to call than if it was a large bet following a traditional slowplay. I know if I raise AK and flop AKT, and a guy shoves all-in ahead of me - I want to call. His move is sound; he's on JQ but he knows that flop smacked me hard and that I will want to call him hoping it's a bluff.

The other advantage of this is that you may or may not make a lot of money slowplaying a hand, but this method is all or nothing. You either double up or you don't. If you get called 1/3 of the time you're making a pretty good profit, and if you save this tactic for situations where you know your opponent flopped something good, you might get called half the time or better.
