Kinda appropriate title, but also an attention grabber i think lol.

Alright, so i decided after about 2 months of deliberation that those 30 dollar fold out poker tables suck real hard. However, everything better costs upwards of 700. So im gonna build one. However, i don't have too much experience playing on different tables so i'm not sure what kind to make. I'm pretty sure i like the long ovalish ones better than the circles making one that is like 8x4 ft, but what about the rail? Like, i can make a race track style table with padded rail, polished/varnished racetrack area then center felt thing. Or i can make one where its just the rail and felt, or i can make one where the rail is like a foot above the playing area like those on the wpt. What is ya'll's experience with these different types of tables? Do you prefer playing on ones with cup holders? etc. I found a good site dealing with instructions on how to make one, just want to make sure there isnt some serious annoyance with any particular design before i do something i cant take back lol. Tell me what you think and thanks for the input.

I've made a few tables but none with racetracks because I can't stand the sound of chips being shuffled on bare wood.

Go to Scott Keen's forum. There is a wealth of knowledge of how to build tables there.

Also, if you want top-notch materials, go to www.yourautotrim.com

I've purchased all my vinyl, volara, foam and speed cloth from there. It's the best price you'll find for top quality materials. Also, make sure you use a good wood, like 3/4" birch or oak. Don't use MDF or particle board, ever. Just make sure you plan everything out ahead of time and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Planning on using 3/4'' plywood for base surface and rail. First site has all sorts of coupons and such, probably for this one as well lol. This is gonna save me like 100. Shame though, i already bought the vinyl from joann's...first topic on that site has 50% off coupons lmao. Thanks again for the sites mez

Yeah plywood ain't too bad, but it's going to be heavy as hell. Just make sure you use deep staples as plywood doesn't hold staples as well as top-notch woods.

Not sure if your "$30 fold out table" was in jest regarding the price, but I have 3 tables similar to this one - http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...ductId=2784970 that I really like. Two of them are the folding kind which makes it nice when a friend needs to borrow a table.

They are certainly not as nice as the $700 variety, but they are definitely decent tables.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

naw, i was referring to the tabletop ones that fold up and then fit in a box kind that are literally 30 bucks on pokergoods.com . I saw the ones you're talking about too, but they just didnt serve my taste. I wanted something that i could leave in a room somewhere and get someone to go "wow". Not to say i didnt consider it anyway for a looooooong time lol.
