You played the hand OK, if he had 9x and hit his 2 outer on the river good for him

On the turn with 0.9 pot and $1.90 behind you can bet a little less. Like 75c on the turn leaves 1.15 left on the river in a 2.5 pot. Whereas betting 90 he knows he is committed, even if he is really bad.

LOL. I already bet 2.33 that he didn't. It didn't turn out well.
Like I said I'm just worried that maybe I should have slowed down or recognized that only better hands would have called, I've already expressed that I don't get value bets on the river.... So maybe there was some flag I missed.

right, i mean these are pretty awesome thoughts to be having. But I am just not a capable enough player/analyst to recommend you check/fold or check/call this river as forum advice.
Actually... I kinda like check/call. It only sucks if he checks behind AT.

checking is awful, he's never folding an ace on this river, just jam and collect the monies.
I'm sorry you ran into the absolute top of his range, tough break.

Look at the pot size as played. How often do you think you should fold $1 in a $2.50 pot? My point was you could be less on the turn and still be committed on the river.

or you could bet what OP did on the turn and get maximum value from hands that will never call a river shove when they miss

well considering villain has a draw, we should only bet the turn small if we think we could induce a bluff with a missed draw
but he'll never bluff even 1.15 into a 2.5 pot since it's just not menacing enough
but he could definitely fold if he missed completely
