So I play mostly SNGs and MTTs, but I am interested in doing ring games again (that's what I started off doing a while ago)
I'm not entirely comfortable playing ring games, that is, I have to think more than I should about some probably 'standard' situations (ie. flop mid pair against 1/2 opponents)
ANYWAYS:
My bankroll is about $300,
I feel that in general my poker game (theoretically) is pretty solid, but I'm just not fully used to ring games (hand for hand vs. survival).
I have a few questions actually:
1. Will I find myself at more of an advantage in full ring or 6 handed, as I get better?
2. What stake should I start at (I realize I'm probably rolled for 10NL (barely) but should I start here or lower?)
3. Does anyone give merit to 'Rush poker' as a viable option when compared to standard tables: either for learning, or profit?

IMO best place to always start something new is at the bottom. I would say FR over 6max (6max more aggro). But try them both and see what you prefer. This is always a good read also How High Can You Get?
Haven't done rush but I would think it wouldn't be good for the learning process jumping from table to table.

Thanks for the input, and for the advice. I did enjoy the thread; it is a good read.
I am tired and sunburned today, but tomorrow, I start on 1-2 tabling (full ring to start) 2NL, my transition to 5NL will be by +2500BB (+$50) if that point comes. Equally far in the other direction & I will transition back to mainly SNGs I think  .

1 tabling FR can be pretty dull after sng's or mtt's. Try not to get bored and try to talk yourself into playing marginal situations at best.

haha yeah, it's been a little slow, esp. compared to 16 tabling sng's ( I did this for about a week with pretty decent profits, but it was mentally draining to the point that I needed ~an hour break between sessions).
but I just upgraded to windows 7 so I still don't have much data, I'll post some when I have 10k hands or so in my pt3 (yay for free trials!). It looks like I'm only going to be working 15-20 hours a week this summer, so that leaves lots of time to improve my game before college rolls around.

I would recommend 6 max if you are coming from MTT and SNG's.
I would definitely start low and then gradually work up before trying 10nl, which is what your BR would imply.

I transitioned into ring games after SnGs too. I would open one ring game while in the early stages of 2-3 SnGs. Once the blinds were high enough in the SNGs for me to pay more attention, I would drop the ring game and focus on the SnGs. Eventually I realized that I was losing money by staying in the SnGs and then switched to ring only.

I think 6 max is going to make you a better poker player because you are going to find yourself in more aggressive games and you'll be playing more hands, I recommend it, but some enjoy grinding Full Ring and there's nothing wrong with that. Good players will win at both games though because the fish are everywhere.
Start at 5NL, see where you're at after about 20K hands, if you're at a good 4-5BB/100 then go ahead and move to 10NL and grind there.
