Step 1: Do you have an Intel Mac? Click the Apple in the upper left corner and select "About this Mac". If the processor has "Intel" anywhere in the name, you are good to go. Otherwise, I am sorry, I can't help you right now.

Step 2: Download and install Darwine from http://www.kronenberg.org/darwine/

Step 3: Copy a friends installation folder of PokerStove, or pm me for a link to download it from. You can do this, but you can also download from http://www.pokerstove.com and run the installer. I tested this and it works fine, you just have to choose the right folder for the installer to work.

Step 4: Place the PokerStove folder wherever you want, then double click PokerStove.exe and it should start right up.

You can use the installer, I just checked. I hadn't done that the first time since I just copied over the folder from my BootCamp partition, so I wasn't sure if it worked and was just trying to be helpful. No need for a radar to go up.

Why do you not get a virtual machine and then run all your windows crap in it? Like Parallels Desktop, Virtual Box or VMWare fusion?

For real. Ever since I installed VirtualBox and got a friend's corporate-licensed copy of XP Pro, my life has been soooo much easier. No more struggles trying to get poker clients, poker tracker, or any other Windows program to work under Wine in Linux. And with VirtualBox's seamless mode, the virtual machine's applications are part of your desktop almost like a native application.

(I say "almost" because you can't Alt+Tab from virtualized apps to native apps, and all of the virtualized apps show up together as one application in your desktop environment. You actually can still switch to native apps with the keyboard, but you have to hit the Host button (Right Control by default) and then Alt+Tab.)

Definitely check it out, it's well worth it.

I don't really have any way to "get a friends" license of Windows. I mean, you still have have Windows (right?), and I just can't afford that now. I would love to not have to do this crap, but I'm grateful this works.

Ok, I downloaded Darwine and all that, but which folder do I put pokerstove into? That is basically the only thing I don't understand about this process. Maybe I'm just a lil slow though lol.

You can just download PokerStove from the main website and use the installer. Just go up a few levels when you are installing and install into your applications folder.

I used to run pokerstove on linux just fine with wine:
http://www.winehq.org/

There's a mac build.

But I agree that virtualbox is the way to go if you're going to use a tracker as well. It suspends and loads very fast, and performs exceptionally well.

It is certainly interesting but I'm not convinced is better than just using one of the emulators or Bootcamp.
Talking of which, does anyone know if the HUDs work with bootcamp etc.

Yes, HEM and PT3 both work with bootcamp. There is a Mac version of PT3 that is fully functional for NLHE and PLO. There is also another native Mac tracking app called Poker Copilot.

I'd like to nominate this for a sticky (maybe in Tools of Poker?).

Virtualbox looks interesting but the installation looks to be a bit complicated. I can't find easy to follow instructions anywhere.

And another thing, what sort of anti-virus do you need if you are running XP on Virtualbox?
