Hey hows it going everyone, I'm new to FTR and I just had a quick question for anyone that can help me out.

I've been playing for the last couple of years and have gotten pretty good, but as I've been playing online I have noticed a couple of things. There are so many people that really do not know what they are doing and they call huge bets with nothing better than Queen high or K4 and really bad hands. When ever I get a monster hand and push all in and then it seems like the whole table pushes in as well. My guess is that they don't know what they are doing and are just pushing in for pot odds, but how do you play in tournaments and sit n gos with everyone just plain calling any hand with stupid cards? My odds go way down when I have to worry about beating 5 or 6 hands when I go all in.

Thanks

Tournaments in which people push all in with almost any two are going to be high variance no matter what you do. Just keep getting it in good and the odds will go your way eventually. The key is to be well bankrolled for whatever stakes you're playing so that you can survive the swings and come out ahead in the end.

Welcome to FTR! Go read the stickies if you haven't already done so.

It just seems that I will play smart and conservative and play agressive when i have to but it just seems like everyone else will call regardless what the bet is. How exactly am I supposed to have a strategy when everyone else has none and just plays with stupidity?

Are you usually getting it in with the best hand?

Yeah I will usually go in with great hands but when the rest of the table calls your raise, that's more of a chance me losing and at least one of the twerps getting a better hand just out of pure numbers. I end up better off just calling with a good hand because I end up losing more chips betting big with a good hand rather than just calling.

I play mainly on pokerstars. Right now I am just focusing on my game right now as I build it up before I start playing on tables with actual money. I enter into a lot of NL Hold-em tourneys and satellites.

If you're rockin play money right now then you can't really expect people to do anything even approaching sane. They will ship it pre with Q8o just to see what happens. Or they'll limp 8 way and all check it down to the river until someone shoves 4000 into 120. People at play money are just goofing around for the most part.

What we hope is that they come to real money and pull the same crap, then we benefit with a little bit of poker knowledge.

Ya, just take the plunge. They play pretty retarded at the smallest stakes still, but usually just 1 or 2 at a time...which is pretty nice. Playing "profitably" in a free money game, is just going to be too damn boring.

You wont learn anything relevant to cash games playing with play money. Other people just dont play the same. Even the 2nl tables behave much differently than play money does.
Just playing to improve.

You can learn rules, hand values and maniac defense at play money. Not much else.

If you don't have cash to put in then you are way better off focusing on freerolls than just getting into play money tourneys.

Oh, and welcome to FTR!!!

Hey all, thanks for the advice. What sort of good freerolls does Pokerstars have that are a good judge of regular games?
