I'm really not sure that, on the EXTREMELY RARE occasions when I flop quads with a pair in the hole, I am playing the optimum strategy.
I have always believed that all you can do is check and call as you have the deck crippled and hope that an opponent or opponents catch something on the turn or the river.
But it never seems to happen. Usually it is checked all the way and I try a small bet on the river which never gets called. No one seems willing to have a go if flush or river cards come down.
I'm also wondering about when someone hits a full house against quads. I take the view that if that happens to me and my opponent is lucky enough to flop quads then I just have to pay him off. I don't know, maybe my opponents never hit boats against quads!

Funny, this hand just happened an hour ago.
I get dealt 88 on the button. Guy behind me in MP raises $2 preflop, I call.
Flop comes 88A. He bets .35. I call.
Turn comes A. He bets .35. I call.
River's a rag. He bets .35. I raise the pot, like 7 bucks. He pushes. I call. He has Aces full of 8's.
Anyway, dream hand. Usually quads are pretty but worthless. To answer your question, you're losing your money if you land a boat vs. quads.

Yeah, you have the deck crippled. If there aren't any visible draws on the flop, then I'll make a smallish value bet. Otherwise, I might give one or two free cards and hope they hit something. Best case scenario is the one above, when they flop a boat.
I don't know if flopping quads is worth worrying about though, it's so rare.
