i'm going to put in some bullet points then read your article then see how closely my thoughts line up.

    1 - villain's preflop 3bet calling range? e.g. is it basically 22-QQ?
    2 - villain's post-flop tendencies. Fit or fold?
    3 - villain's awareness of hero's c-betting tendencies
4 - cbet sizing in general.
5 - board textures matter, 8hi monotone flops aren't the same as Q94 three suits.
6 - how would you play the top of your range? would you play your whole range like this?
    7 - what's a balanced play in this spot?
8 - what are the optimal adjustments from balanced play to exploit the weaknesses of this particular opponent?

post looks like some good simple tips for helping think about this specific spot, and poker in general. Nice article.

I have a question which relates somewhat to this thread, and I thought instead of writing a new thread just to post my question here. To be an aggressive player I have read that you should be raising somewhat 70% of the time pre-flop, and if you're a player who selects good starting hands (like I believe I do) then this shouldn't be too much of a worry. Of course the problem with this is what happens when the flop comes up with nothing?

    Example:

    My starting hand - 910
I raise from middle position 3XBB
    Flop comes in - 3K4

The board is dry for your hand and you have no opportunities at all and no reason to continue betting.
    You check
    Opponent bets
    You fold

I tend to feel like an absolute plonker when I have raised, the board comes up empty and I end up checking to my opponent like a little mouse.

    GreatLeslie,

9Ts isn't all that strong a hand. Did you consider just folding it from middle position before the flop?

"Middle position" could mean a lot of things. How many seats were you from the button?

There was only three other players including the dealer in the pot. Surely you wouldn't fold such a hand?

but you have backdoor diamonds lol no but on a serious note your description is too vague. where is villain seated? are there more than on opponent on this flop? do you have position on him? all of these factor in. HEAVILY if your IP vs. a single opp. I would cbet this board all day vs an unknown, dry single high card with no draws these are the cbetting boards of dreams right here, along with A92r,Q72r etc. now I see the other post that there are 3 other players in the hand. if I get first stab im probably 2 barreling this board just because its soo hard for our opponents to have a hand its not so much about what we have. we could have ATC here.
