Having seen Hangchiongs post earlier and I appreciate that his is over a large sample and that mine is over a minute sample of 500 hands.This is more of a am i heading in the right direction sort of question.All hands played at 2NL with a mixture of FR and

I was surprised at the amount won on the button stat but investigating showed that the following hand was the main culprit for this.

my initial feeling is that I need to tighten up in early position, and cut right back on completing the small blinds.

500 hands isn't even a drop in the bucket. If one hand makes a difference in your stats, then your sample size isn't even close to large enough.

Try posting when you get to 10,000. That will be a much better sample size that we will be able to better analyze your play.

I'm sure some much better players than me could help you a lot, but I will start off with the obvious stuff.

While 500 hands is a very small sample size, I think your main problem is that you are playing WAY too many hands, especially out of position.

I think you need to cut out almost all the hands you are limping. Raise some, but fold the vast majority. For reference, your VPIP for full ring should ideally be in the 14%-19% range, and your PFR in the 12%-17% range. For short-handed those numbers could be a bit higher, but not too much. maybe VPIP 23%, PFR 20% at the most. Starting hand charts could be useful to give you an idea of what are good hands to open with from what position (provided you think about what you are doing and don't just follow them blindly).

Positionally, complete MUCH less out of the SB. Remember you are out of position for the rest of the hand there - completing 50% of hands is just throwing away money a lot of the time. I would also like to see a bit more of a difference between the CO (seat 1) and the button, which means tightening up out of the CO. As even micro players become more positionally aware and open up off the button, you will find yourself increasingly out of position there. Don't get me wrong here - it should still be the second most played position and you should still play good hands strongly from there - but it should be played noticeably less than the button. Having said that, I wouldn't worry too much about it yet because it might be skewed by the small sample size.

One final thought - looking at a combination of your W$WSF (a little low), your WTSD (a little low) and your W$SD (a little high), I wonder whether you are getting pushed off hands a little too easily post-flop. It could be small sample size again, but I'd be interested to know how you usually play hands like overpairs and flush draws?

I think a great thread for you to read would be Robb's noobie's first 5K hands of 10NL (or something like that) - great for developing some of the basic tight aggressive play you will need to win as a beginner at the micro stakes. I don't have the link and have run out of time to find it, but do a search or hopefully someone else will post it?

thanks Tony. Its ironic but I just posted about following that very thread mainly because my vpip etc stats seemed (to me as inexperienced ) as being too high, but then again I was deliberately choosing tables where 80% of players were seeing the flop.Attempting to steal blinds at that level is pointless as theres always 2 or 3 callers.
As an aside to the Mods, any chance of it being added to the strategy section or the beginers digest for other newbies to read through.
