i figure a lot of people dont know this. in fact, i bet a lot of you more experienced guys understand it, and know the rough percentages, but couldnt explain how to figure it. hell, i just did it for the first time, and came up with an easy way to calculate it......hence the post. lol.

common cbet amounts, in percent of pot size, are obviously 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, and psb. but, how do we figure how many times one needs to work to show profit? which is better?

take a $10 pot, for easy math.

how about the 1/2 pot cbet? we bet $5. how often does it need to work to show profit? 1/3 or 33%. how did we figure that? simple.

take $5 and add it to pot ($10). total = $15. it needs to work once more than 5 out of 15 times. or 1/3.

if it works 5 times, we win 10+10+10+10+10 = 50.
if fails 10 times, we lose 5+5+5+5+5+5+5+5+5+5 = 50.

how about 2/3? we bet $6 into $10. how often? 6/16 or 37.5%.

take $6 and add it to $10. total $16. it needs to work once more than 6 out of 16 times. or 6/16.

if it works 6 times, we win 10+10+10+10+10+10 = 60.
if it fails 10 times, we lose 6+6+6+6+6+6+6+6+6+6 = 60.

how about 3/4? we bet $7 (rounding down) into $10. total $17. it needs to work 7/17 times. or 41.1%

how bout full pot? we bet $10 into $10. total $20. needs to work 10/20 times. or 50%.

just add the amount you fire to the total pot. divide the original amount you fired into the total and thats your percentage.

true 3/4. $7.50 into $10. total $17.50. needs to work 7.5/17.5 times. or 42.9%.

what about an $8 pot you say? and, you want to fire $5? well, thats 5 into 8 for 13. or 5/13 times. or 38.5% of the time.

i'm sorry. for you higher stakes players...
you fire $38 into $50. pot now $88. needs to work 38/88 times. or 43.1%.

this doesnt include the times you fire with overs, and one hits. or the draw completes. or the times you hold up with A high. those only slant the odds into your favor more.

it also doesnt account for the times you 2 barrel. or get re-sucked out on. but, you get the point.

i just thought it was easy to figure, and havent ever seen anyone explain it confidently before...even though we already know the rough percentages.

now, which is better? thats up to you. hell, i did the math for you. you can do the rest. lol.
