I'm new to poker. Just started last week, but as I'm very new, I don't have any sorrow when losing, especially as you can just get on with it again in the next tournament 10 seconds later, unlike other sports/competitions, where you have to wait weeks. So don't feel to bad all out there, especially if you're new, as you can only learn by losing to better players.

back when i started playing tournaments, i would steam and my blood would feel like it was boiling. now i take note of any iffy hands i play during the tournament, and i analyze the hand that busted me. i usually feel good after feeling like i made the right play, and if i feel like my play was questionable i lurk around on mirc/forums

Depends on how I went out and where I was in it. Bad beat or standard play, I'm cool. When I make a bad play thats when I get frustrated.

Exactly. If you can't let bad beats go, then you have no business playing the game.

Think we can learn alot from Tiger Woods on this topic (trust me it's relevant).

When Tiger hits a bad shot or gets a bad break, he gets really mad (shouts an expletive, bangs his club on the ground, berates himself) for about 5-10 seconds. This is a natural reaction because he is very competitive and it releases energy.

However, after 5-10 seconds, he regroups, TOTALLY forgets the past and refocuses on his next shot.

Same thing in poker, bang the mouse, throw the headphones down, slam the table, release the frustration and then get back to the business at hand.

If it was a bad decision, learn for the next time but don't dwell on the negatives, just focus on making good decisions/reads going forward.

Easier said than done but my 2 cents....

Define "lose"

Definition 1 Not make the money? That kinda steams me a little bit. I know I'm good enough to cash just about all the time, or at least get relatively close.

Definition 2 Not take first? I've taken first 1 one tournament plus a 2nd in one tournament. All the rest (including my 2nd place) I've lost. I really don't care

Defintion 3 Lost all my funds due to a terribad play/call/bluff. That tilts me to no end.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

I'm glad I'm out.
That's why I don't play them.
Only thing that tilts me is if I go out last man on the bubble.

If you don't feel like your nuts just got stomped on when you take any other place than 1st, you need to reanalyze your game.

Today I played my first MTT in 3 months and got 6/342 and I feel like shit.

Disagree here.

If you got all your money in good, Say AAvsKK, and that turdbucket drew out on you crippling you for the rest of the tournament and forcing you to shove with A7 on the button (with 6 BB's left in your stack)and someone else calls you with JJ and you can't improve.

I'd feel pretty darn good about my play, and realize that you can't win them all

In fact you can't even win a large percentage of them. That's why you win so much money when you *do* take on down.

No use beating yourself up over something that you only have *most* control over.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?

My point was that winning should always be your goal in MTTs.. you have to learn to despise the opposition and have a killer instinct. I am not saying you should get mad and beat your wife every time you bust out, I am just saying that you should be disappointed no matter why you busted out.

But maybe its just me.. I always have been insanely competitive and can't stand losing.

But getting 2-6th in an MTT and winning a shitload of dough would surely soften the pain when the check comes

When I first started playing in any type of tourneys, getting highly pissed off was a given. The more I played , learned and started selecting better tourneys to play in, the less I was on tilt. Lately I have found myself down to being in the money, and for some reason I seem to make bad decisions. That makes me angry at myself. I just try to shrug it off, learn from it and get a little better at thinking things through.

i think in reality you should get real mad and if u choose "beat your wife" i mean its kinda her fault anyway for letting you play in the first place. but in all honestly if u go in with the best hand and you get sucked out on then you just need to calm down and realize that if u play the hand the same way your going to most likely win it and not be suckedf out on.....live and let live.......like jym said to me if ur 60 percent to win ur only gonna win 60 percent of the time
