The only hands that beat you are J7, J9, JQ and QQ. The flop bet is 1.5x the pot which is rather large. Here you must give him credit for at least TP and possibly more. But it is impossible, by the turn and flop bets to put him on the bigger boat. He could have been playing any JX hand. I think you made the right play

Oops, maybe I should have posted this in HH, oh well.

Thanks for your answer. I was thinking a made flush here, and was looking to make a boat because of the huge implied odds if he had the nut or near-nut flush. I hit what I was looking for and saw $$$ coming my way. Should I have considered something else here and settled with a call, because of the deep stacks? (I wouldn't mind losing a buy-in here, but this is like two)

When the second J hit, I thought it was possible that he held a jack, but I didn't think he had the boat as well.

Maybe I should have re-raised the flop to see where I stand? I seem to have trouble with these 3-flush flops. Especially when I hit what I am looking for on them (TPTK, two pair, a set).

i am wahoo3.

IMO, there was nothing you could've done here, I would play it just like you. A reraise on the flop wouldn't have helped. raising the flop changes nothing unless you totally jammed it, but i honestly was expecting to call raises and fear calls on that flop. after the turn there was nothing more you could do: calling the river would've been about the weakest possible play ever.

this hand was worth losing 200BB.

Greedo: You are? nh. Kinda fun to discuss big hands with the one beating you. I'll be back for those chips, you know.

Guess the answer is pretty clear, but one always doubts these plays when the showdowns are lost. :P

Greedo: Hehe yeah, good thing you dont' feel bad Made it back now plus some. I like the Absolute kinda-tight play compared to other sites. It really sharpens you up and prevents you from going too loose.

Yeah, I don't think you could've played this any other way. Maybe raise preflop to rat out the ugly hands like J7s.

When you have an underset house you stay cautious on a paired board when someone is getting heavy. I would have just called here.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

Question (not questioning the play!):

Is it worth trying to raise on the turn? If he comes over top, it's time to close the shop.

I guess the only problem with this is that if he's made his flush you probably don't get paid.

btw, Greedo, I love your avatar. It is WTF personified. Where did you get it from?

Yeah, especially since the flop came all clubs and someone bet over the size of the pot. That almost always means set or two pair because they're trying to protect their hand and find the flush.

The flush is what you're hoping they have and normally they won't speed up until the turn or river - unless they have a baby flush and trying to protect against the ace draw.

All in all though, you're destined to lose money here. Not really much of a bad play here or anything. Given similar circumstance I'd probably lose most if not all my stack here as well.

ChezJ is an unknown quantity at this point
i don't know which strikes me as more unlikely... the fact that your boat was beaten by J7 ("WTF" indeed... ok he was BB) or the fact that the villain in your post turned out to be another FTR regular!!

ChezJ

p.s. i push on the river.
