I just started playing poker this summer with a group of guys at my camp. We usually have from five to eight people in a game. We have $10 buy in, and players can rebuy whenever and cannot cash out until an hour has passed. I have gotten significantly better playing a tight strategy. However, there is this one player that can read me very well and I cannot win much if he is playing. He plays a loose game and is the best player here. He is very hard to read, raises often before the flop and seems to win these hands whenever someone calls. Also, when he raises he does not usually stop raising, but just keeps on pressuring with more raises. He also bluffs sometimes, but it is very hard to tell when he is bluffing and when he has a winning hand.

Do you guys have any idea on how to beat/counter such a player, other than not playing with him? I would very much appreciate it. Sorry for the long first post!

Only thing will work here -- Set him on TILT!
--so, make fun of him, joke about his ridiculous outfit, put alcohol in his drink, steal his chips, anything really.... then he should not play optimally..

if that dont work and he is good player then u may actually try to avoid geting in pot with him...make money out of worse players (if ur worst, then set on tilt whole table using my tips above ).... generaly wait for good cards and trap him---== turn a hand against him and let him do the betting for u...

i should write a book....

I guess if he really can read you, then he knows if you have a hand or you don't have a hand.

So you need to do the opposite of whatever he's trying to make you do. So don't fold when he wants you to.

Also, the best way to stop a guy from raising is to put in a big raise (most or all of your chips) before he does. At that point, he can't bluff you. You've already put in so many chips that you're obviously not going to fold. Wait until you have a decent hand, and put HIM to decisions.

If he is raising so much, he can't have the goods all the time. He's probably bluffing/betting with little a lot of the time. It sounds like he is taking advantage of the tighter players by continually raising until he meets resistance.

You should probably aim to trap him and let him bet your hands for you. If he is firing anytime you check, you can check and call with some fairly weak hands. Better would be to have position on him so you can make sure he doesn't take free cards when he raises a draw.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.
