Last night did a 60 minute session of about 90 hands (I know, not a lot). However, looking back over the session my VPIP was 15 and my PFR was 3. This wasn't because I wasn't playing right but because I hit absolutely NO good opening hands. Best hand I got over this time was AQs once and pocket 10's once but everything else was Alow offsuit or Kcrap or Qcrap. I usually play aokrongly's 19 hands and I got one of them 3 times. Everything else was playing off of BB or SB. I did manage to break even except for one hand (the AQs) where I folded because the guy had a full house to my top 2 pair (he showed - good fold by me).

How do you approach sessions where your cards are crap for a loooong time - I'm not impatient enough to just start playing with crap but it gets frustrating.

Definitely try to play at least 2 tables. And as you already know, patience is the key. With only 90 hands, it not implausible to go without a good starting hand (but you already know that too).

Read a book or browse some websites if you're not comfortable playing more tables. Just make sure you focus when you do play a hand. But this is just a suggestion, not something I have "tried and done". Personally, I play 1/3 of my hands, 3 tables, and 6max (which is a lot faster than full ring) so it's never been a real problem. I do know what you mean however, when I move up a stake and play one table to adjust, it gets frustrating like hell.

After today's session (see below) I proceeded to kill my cat, punch a hole in the wall, then drive to six flags to show them my blueprint for an amazing roller coaster (again, see below). They rejected it and then I took out my oozie and blasted every person in site. Also, I listened to a lot of music and ate food for a while.

If you are playing you should be concentrating on playing and taking notes especially if you are pretty new.

The way to deal with having a bad run of cards is to just learn to get over it. You will go through cold runs a million times in your poker career. Even worse will be the times when you keep hitting hands that arent quite as good as your opponents. Experience will teach you to cope with it.

Oh this thread is about a cold deck. I was assuming the theme was a losing session. Just ignore my post then.

Through having many frustrating sessions, I have learnt to:

a) play through them playing close to my A game
b) leave my frustrations at the table and go about my normal life afterwards

You just have to practise losing

When people lose without grace it makes me chuckle a bit, but when they win without grace, it annoys the hell outta me.

I take a 15 minute break if I get sucked out on on a big pot. Just as a precaution to avoid tilt.

And squash is fun. In a far away past I used to play it a lot. Now I haven't played sports in ages..

I think Stu Ungar said this.
