Gents (and ladies),

I was playing poker earlier today online and I had top pair so I bet everybody and we showed hands. I had a pair of queens, but lost to somebody who had a 6 and a 7!

There was a 6 and a 7 on the the table after the river so they had 2 pairs... Who takes a 6 and a 7 to the flop, let alone the river!?

How do I go about legislating for that in future? I was disadvantaged after that because I had lost most of my chips.

My best guess is if there is some way to make a law so that individuals can't play less than the nuts preflop.. Maybe??

Or he could be asking if he could make a law so he cant lose... I really don't know. He lost me.

So anyway, let's give the guy a chance to come back and explain himself or ask the question in a manner that makes sense. In the meantime, let's not post anything else. I don't really wanna have to lock this thread because it becomes filled with posts with the sole purpose of ridiculing the OP.

hmmm, okay, we have all had a laugh. I think that something may have been lost in translation! Clearly the term legislate means something else as well over here in good old Blighty.

Allow me to try and explain - I was playing poker and I got beat at the show down by somebody with a 6 and a 7. They beat me with two pairs, whereas I had a pair of queens, which was the top pair. Did they just get lucky or is there a ploy that I should have adopted?

they got lucky, and this will happen a lot of the time. Be prepared for it.

And WELCOME...

You are missing a ton of important factors in this hand. If you want an answer that is accurate you need to provide full information about the hand, especially whether you were all-in before they hit two pair or not. But in absolute honestly, it doesn't matter whether or not he got lucky or not. If you played the hand correctly then you will profit in the long run. If you didn't thenyou won't.

Head to the link that wellrounded gave here and begin reading all the articles there. It will help you better understand how you should look at things.

Yeah man, definitely read every post in the BC digest. Everyone starts somewhere and you've come to the right place. When you have trouble with a hand, post the complete hand history. You can post the text version or use the hand converter tool here on FTR.

Hand 0: 78.504% { QcQd }
Hand 1: 21.496% { 7d6d }

you win 78% of the time and lose the other 21%. sometimes the worst hand comes out on top, that's just how poker works.

i sure hope the op was joking though

Well we could legislate against it, but making calling QQ with 76 off illegal is probably a bad idea.

Whatever you choose to do, just make sure you lobby the conservatives, they are easier to buy for a buck.
The older I get, the more I start wondering; Just what in the hell is going on here?
