I dunno I've followed this idea for a while, I'm pretty sure it works well. Idk open to discussion.
Okay- on low limit NL holdem- there are two types of betting that I use at different occasons.
One- you have two undercards to the board, or a gutshot str8 with 1 over... aka nothing, air.
Make a small bet, 1/2 - 2/3 pot on flop.
Or scare card comes on turn, like Ace or 3rd spade, make a 1/2-2/3 pot sized bit, or just a lil higher than the flop bet.
Thing is, when you lay out a signficant but 'callable' bet- fish give the bet too much credit- they see you bet 1.25 into a 2 dollar pot 'o no- this dude must really want a call to lay that out- i bttr fold'. On the turn, these small bets are even more successful- the turn is the truth-telling street- usually hands reveal themselves here- only 1 card left for draws, flop is the 'bluff' street it seems, so a turn bluff of 1/2- 2/3-3/4 of the pot is really successful. These 'callable' bluffs scare people b/c it seems like your trying to milk them. It's almost like min-betting on paired board or flush board- looks like u badly want to be raised, it scares ppl.
On the other side, this concept is why value-bettin hands throughout (on the river, too) sometimes hurts ur profits- ppl see u want a call and fold. If you blast pots with a made hand- people think either u have a vulnerable hand- like top pair- or that ur bluffing. They will call u with worse crap.
e.i. if ur headsup, flop a set- try to bet 1.5x bot- ppl wil think 'bs' then u check the turn. 'o i nabbed this bluffer! they think' then u rape them on river (or right there on turn).
I just find this concept hilarious- u bluff small they fold, u bet big with made, u get the call. All b/c ppl have the weakness= strength, strength = weakness concept ingrained. Also the success rate of these relatively small bets (significant still, not minbets at all) is that their success rate only needs to be small to be profitable. u bet 1/2 pot this only needs to work 33% of the time to break even.
I doubt this works on the wiser players however- they understand- 4:1 on my money? Ok... donks are all "he wants a call i hafta disappoint'. lol fine by me when i have undercards.

Also, as soon as an aware player figures out your strategy he can adapt incredibly easily to it and end your profitability.

I think this is true for thinking players. They can tell when you want a call or don't want one. They can also tell, however, when you're overbetting a made hand.
In my experience, the smaller I bet, the more calls I get. Period. Fish call bets relative to the amount of money they're willing to risk, without regard to pot size, implied odds, or hand strength. For instance, they'll call $3 into any pot, say a $1 pot. But they won't call $7 into a $15 pot with the same hand.
