Actually I'm mainly a billiard player. But I started to get interested in poker as well and want to pursue it. I was reading about calculating odds on the turn and river for cards that might make your hand.. but I was wondering, where can I find information on calculating the pref lop odds. Additionally, if I have, say a pair of 5's.. how do I calculate my odds then? Any information to point this newby in the right direction is helpful.
Thanks in advance!
p.s. this site is great and has a wealth of information.

I have always used this, and it was extremely helpful. I still use it actually. Just set it to 250k sample, holdem, high stakes, fill in the starting hands (and a flop if you want) and let it calculate.
A more advanced program would be pokerstove.
