This seems to be happening to me way too often lately. I hit my sets but still don't get paid.

I probably shouldn't have slow-played, but I was also looking to try to win a decent sized pot. I saw the straight possibility on the river, but I did not in any way think that villian had 5-6. I put him on two pair or TPTK. No real reads on the guy, as he had just recently sat down at the table. Should I have folded to his push over my re-reaise? Anything I should be doing differently, besides maybe not slowplaying, in the future to avoid this?? Or is this just a bad beat and go get 'em next time????

raise pf ,...bet the flop,not 2 much but build the pot a lil bit...this is just a bad beat..keep at it.....if your having trouble getting paid off your sets , just raise your PP's preflop, there's a thread where this is talked about .....

 Don't slowplay in an unraised pot. It sucks if people will all fold, but in an unraised pot you need to inflate it quick, plus hand ranges are very wide so there's a bigger risk of people hitting their hidden monster, so price them to try to hit it. In a raised pot hand ranges are more defined and the pot is somewhat bigger so it works better to slowplay there.
