Ive been playing for almost four years, the last three very seriously (playing for a living). I took a "week break" about 6 weeks ago, and now I just cant stand playing anymore. I just hate it. I used to play 4-5 hours a day 8 tabling and read these forums every day, but now I am just so bored with poker. Its so brainless and boring that I get no pleasure at all.
Thing is, Im not working until Jan 10 and my money is running pretty low. I just moved into a new apartment with my girl and blew a good chunk of change on furniture, xbox (gears of war baby!!) rent, etcetc. So I need to play. My Epassporte is drained, and I cashed out everything but 1200 bucks . So anyway, any advice on how to get going? My main problem is I just hate it, im so tired of every single situation that you can come across that ive seen a million times already. I need to get MOTIVATED. HELP!

Casino whoring is a good one. It's even more mindless but it's EASY and it should keep you going till 10th Jan.

Have you tried Omaha? If you have no idea at all how to play it I guess it's a bad idea, but it can be a nice change for sure.
Casino whoring is a good option as well, not exactly fun, but at least it's something else than poker.

Casino whoring - can someone explain what this is exactly and why anyone would want to do it?
Izybx - have you though about entering some of the bigger tournaments? If you are that experienced you should do pretty well?

Do you have any casinos nearby to play live games? I think the live games is so much more fun and easier. It's definately a change of pace.

Interesting advice because I've been contemplating a switch to live games. The online scene has been good, but its so frustrating sometimes. Definitely something I'm thinking about...

online casino's offer many bonuses on sign up. Some are crap but some are 100% matches. These are cool because you need to wager a certain amount of money before you are eligible to withdraw all the money. Now everyone knows you cant win at blackjack, because its rigged but because the bonuses are big and you make small bets using a perfect BJ play chart, you are nearly always able to cash out a significant part of any sign up bonus you are offered from an online casino playing BJ. Hence +ev.

Yea,
this is your bank acct on poker: $1000000
this is your bank acct w/out poker: $-
If playing to win money is not motivation enough (when you need money) then I don't think we can be any help.

Just do it

The flop, turn and river can change everything. It is important to remain objective and remember that the overall goal is to win, not win this specific hand

world sports exchange poker (home of RAKE FREE poker)... it surely does alleviate any tensions knowing ur getting a huge chunk of money back, so TRY IT!!! I LUV IT... the games are much less but u still can play atleast 2 games at a time and concentrate more on them, knowing the accumulating rake is like adding an adiitional 2 tables worth of profit, so no worries there, in case u were wondering why the tables are scarce. At minimum be a break even player and still make a huge profit, be a great player and well u already know $$$...
*Accumulating Rake: they still take rake from ur pots, but the full amt. is returned to you every 5 days in ur cashier acct. automatically!

Remember why you started playing in the first place. If you're finding it "brainless and boring", give yourself some new challenges - new games, new stakes, live play...

It's a simple fix. Go to work. For a year, maybe two, maybe 25. try it. Set your alarm clock every day, 6 a.m. drive an hour to get to work. Do what you are told, no discussion. You will wait for the day you can take a break when you want. Leave, when you want. Work more, when you want.
This is not meant to be a shot at you, izybx, but 99% of the players on here will trade with you in a heart beat. Ask anyone over the age of 30 that has worked since school let out what they would rather do. I would like to hear from one person who had a job for ten or twenty years, that would rather work than play poker. And I mean someone who plays winning poker that pays the bills, not struggling to survive poker like some of us. It's a case of grass is always greener. Trust me, it's not.

There is a very simple solution to your problem:
Do you know what it is ? I don't
err what
oh yea
I believe you are not as successful at playing poker as you think you are. Very successful poker players buy houses not rent apartments.
They don't blow their wad on an xbox and rent because those items are chump change and would barely put a divet in their cash flow.
So I think you should find your hope and passion in knowing that you are still playing at the chump change level and have a lot of room for improvement.

It's funny how poker becomes way less fun when you HAVE to play it. So many people say, "oh you have no idea how lucky you are to be able to play for a living ... so many people would give so much for that chance", but you don't really know until you do it. I've never done it to that extent so I don't know either, but I can understand how it could happen. I've played less poker that I've ever played ever since I decided not to go back to work and to play for income. I guess it's psychological. I have to play a certain number of hours, it's not a choice anymore ... and that makes me not wanna do it.
izybx, I don't know how to make you love poker again. Maybe that's not possible. But really, you just gotta think to yourself, I gotta play or else I'm not going to be able to pay my bills. You don't really wanna get yourself in a position where you have no money at all ... play now and save yourself the stress.

This is a pretty bad post. You have no idea about his level of play or ability, so you probably shouldn't say what you just said.

I started off slow, not playing much but I wasn't doing that well either. Since then I've been doing very well and have enjoyed it for the most part. Then again, making money is fun.
Just picture yourself asking someone "would you like a side salad with that?". Maybe that will help.
