Hello all
I have not been playing all that long but I really enjoy the competition and the game in general. I am up and down but have learned alot in the last eight weeks or so.
But now I have run into something that really has me scratching my head. Over the last seven days I have lost a lot of games, mostly heads up SNGs, with hands that I was the best going in after the flop and being drawn out on, I read the person perfectly, knew I had the best hand and still lost. Now I know this happens but it has happened to me 12 times in a row. The last time I had K 9 off suit. Had played the other fella for about 45 mins and had a pretty good feel for how he was playing, the flop came 3 5 9 rainbow. He had called and I had checked before the flop so I felt I had the best hand, even if he had a nine I figured my kicker was better. I bet two hundred, he goes all in. He had bet it up before when I bet and when I called with two pair he had nothing so I felt comfortable calling. I called and he had 6 9. The only card he could beat me with was a six, and he catches a six on the turn.
Ok so Im sulking a bit....lol. I feel good about my playing because most of the time I am making the right decision statistically. But how do you keep these non stop aberations from affecting your play the next time you play?

The only way is to play within your bankroll. That way these lossses hurt emotionally, but not financially. I assure you that as long as you have reads like that you will win far more than you lose.

Your AA can lose 4 times in a row getting allin preflop.

100 times your AA will only lose 20 times (if that).

Big sample > Small sample.

you can't afford him bio.

the 'leg is right. you get stacked on a bad beat, forget about it. do something else for a bit. get poker out of your head.

every hand is played in a vacuum. the universe resets when the cards are shuffled. your AA is stil 80 percent to win. relax.

When you get your money in with the best of it and get sucked out on, you played well and your opponent didn't. So what you do to deal with this is focus on your good decision and the fact that in the long run the other guys chips will be in front of you. Just don't allow yourself to be upset by it. It is going to happen over and over again, and sometimes many times in succession. That's poker.

the only thing that seperates poker from blackjack is a house edge. The person playing the house wins from time to time, but the edge is still there. Over a long enough timeline, the house can, does, and may end up winning all the players money.

You, presumably the better poker player, is like the "house" against a terrible gambler just playing poker for fun. Odds and correct play don't concern him. Or maybe they do and he just has a fuzzy understanding of what is really correct to do.

I've tripled and quaddrupled my buy-ins at a local casino $200 NL game because the players call pot size bets with draws constantly. When you have nights where they miss every time, that profit adds up massively.

take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately
