I've noticed that most freegames are (in varying degrees) far different than the action provided by real money games at PartyPoker. If you're a newby like me and are trying to play as well as learn, this is frustrating. Too many all-ins, too many call stations, etc.
My advice is to stick with the Play Money/ Single Table/ 50/5 tournaments. I've played both free and pay games and these tables seem to come closest to 'real' pay table action. The 10/1 tables almost always seem to have 2 or 3 hands of "all-in" fever which, regardless of whether you participate in, tip the odds early in someone's favor.
I'm kind of new so if you find fault with this or have a better idea for fellow Holdem learners out there, please post!

My experience is that a decent stakes real cash game is the best place to learn the ins and outs of poker. The best place I find a decent mix of all types of playing styles id the $10/1 SNG's at Party. A couple maniacs with some rock soild players. Just my .02 cents.

thnx guys. I agree, the low stakes pay games are still generally pretty loose which would be cool if I had the banknote to stay with it I guess. I was mainly tryin to find the best Party free table that emulates what a decent pay game should be like. For the broke-ass homies out there like myself
thanks much for your insights!

I would suggest the freerolls at full tilt poker. You have to get ready and sign up right when they start registering. 900 players. But they pay real money 10 for 1st 6 2nd 4 3rd or something. Of course it is nutty at first but it settles down a little bit.

But I think if you don't want to spend money and have a chance at winning something I think it is pretty good.

Also, if you have had a few and get the hankerin to play this is a good place cuz you can't do anything stupid that will cost you money

I've found that after about 5 people have killed themselves w/ all in's early, the play starts to tighten up somewhat. It becomes a little better poker, and a few times I've gotten into really good games 4-handed with what seemed like decent players who knew what they were doing. But thats also after floating through lots of crap. But in the end it's better than nothing if you play it like you would in a normal game.

The good thing about the 10/1 SnG's at PartyPoker is that even when a few nutcases go all-in right off the bat, the person who takes the early lead is just, well, an all-in maniac who, with some decent play, most players shouldn't have a problem against.

I agree with Autocratic, in the 10/1 & 5/1 SnG's just sit tight for a level or two. Most mainacs will have bust and leave one manic who is easy to take the money from. Also sometimes you may be the lucky one that gets the big hand early on and mop up the chips for an easy ITM finish.

If you go to royalvegaspoker.com they will give you 10.00 free to play with after you sign up. I think 7sultans will also.

After you download the software and sign up, 24 hours later they will drop the free 10.00 in your account that you can use to play at real money games.

Once you get that, they have .05/.10 NLHE ring games that have a max buy-in of 2.00. If you catch a little run you might be able to build a roll from that. Some of those games are extremely easy to beat, but there are a few sharks preying on the newbies free 10.00.

Good luck.

I'd be just another newbie with $10 >< lol. I'm a fast curve buster though. Been relying on a cheat sheet (only play online at moment) but I've got a fairly decent mental pictoral referance going of Lou Krieger's starting hand chart as well as the oh so handy and fairly accurate 4/2 rule for draw odds. Still working on getting the long math down.
I agree that the free tournaments do mostly settle down after a short while but honestly, I don't want to accumulate a big stack of busted out maniac chips. My main point is to try to find a more realistic (like pay) game so an immediate jump in my own stack size kind of throws me off my "play like it's my money on the line" kick.
My prob is it takes me 2 weeks to accumulate $50 to throw in my real stack and that's hard for a newb like me to practice with for long. With my crappy standard deviation, I may need to save up for a month or two before paying for real lessons. So in that month or two, I will study more books and online tutorials and (full circle now) look for play games that come closest to pay games.
Maybe I should start my own forum... "Hold'em for Newbs Who Can't Really Afford to Play but are Going to Anyway". Seems like a lot of peeps here consider themselves at least Regulars if not Semi-pros. Sorry to bust up all newb like on you guys.
One thing is for sure, practicing play makes it hard to determine how tight (or loose) to go when switching to pay. I've got to do somemore reading on diffs between nl, holdem, pl. I kinda like holdem best.. at least I don't run the risk of loosing 2 weeks worth of funding to a one bad beat. I know one night I was drawing everything, even hit royal. Won $140 that night and cleared 21/2 tables before reversing my chip flow. Been downhill ever since but man,m you talk about aggressive. It was a blast!
peace all
