Video Free eBook Download: How to Really Suck at Poker

According to this thread, I've recently been tricked into taking over as the moderator for some of the micro stakes/small stakes/new people. Along those lines, I'm going to use this thread to lay out the projects and things of that nature that I'm going to be working on for you guys.

These points are numbered so that you can post comments/questions/suggestions/haterade referring to specific numbers.

    1. The Priority for the Chat Room is Downgraded

Long story short, my connection sucks so I'm constantly being kicked off of the chat room that we had going not that long ago, and it's really a pain to try to keep it going when I'm pretty busy all the time as it is. That leads us to our next point:

    2. The Priority for the Chat Thread is Upgraded

We'll have a general chat thread here in the forum to make this work out a little better. You'll still be able to BS with each other during the day while you're at work or while you're in the middle of sessions, but it'll just be in a different format.

    3. Study Groups and Hand History Reviews

Thanks for this suggestion from daven or d0zer or whichever it was who was actually stealing it from another guy. I'm going to structure some hand history reviews in a way that hasn't really been done before here on FTR. Basically, you're going to be able to give your thoughts, notes, analysis and everything else on a hand before you see what anyone else has written. Then after a few days (or a week, for example), the hand will be posted, and all of the analysis received from everyone will be posted along with it. This can be an immensely helpful and fun thing to do.

We're also going to be looking to do study groups based on classic poker books, articles, concepts and things of that nature. For example, we might decide that the first week of November is International Continuation Betting week where we spend a week looking specifically at continuation betting spots.

    4. References and Stickies

We used to have a pretty decent organization for popular, useful or important threads. I'm not really sure where that went, but we're going to get it back, and we're going to need help updating some of the older information.

    5. Specific Guides on Depositing for US Players

It's a real pain to try to figure out how to deposit. New players from the US get turned off from this in a major way. I want to help fix this with real step-by-step types of situations that will show you exactly what you need to be doing to get in on the action so that you can improve with our resources at FTR and really learn to plow through the competition.

I'll probably post some more stuff later. Let me know what you think of these changes, and let me know what it would take for you to become more involved in the strategy forums.

2p2 Beginner section has a monthly bankroll thread which is used for like mini goal tracking, general questions etc. I quite like it, just about having enough people to contribute to keep it active.

re 1 and 2 - irc has at times been immensely valuable and active, at other times less so. the house changed things a bit years back, but not as much at the stars/ftp ban on us players
3 - sounds like a stroke of summat
4 - this was gold. Sticky the isf articles etc. Good luck finding it all!
5 - makes sense for the yuessians

    Some other considerations.

    6. Accountability - It's really hard to work on poker goals without having people who are also involved in poker as a support system. The rest of life can get in the way, and although poker can often be put on the back burner when life happens, the fact of the matter is that it's a priority for a lot of people. We want to get those people together so that they can support each other and become more than the sum of their parts.

    7. Newbie Friendliness - A lot of new players sign up to these forums because they are interested in playing the freerolls and money-added events. In the past, there has been a very hateful dynamic against these players since it can sometimes seem like that's all they want. What some people forget is that they are supposed to want those things, and if you don't cultivate an environment where they are going to feel welcomed (ie: if you treat them like an asshole), then they have no motivation to stick around and be a real part of the forums.

    8. Poker Tool Guides - I need volunteers for people to write basic guides on how to use the newest generation of poker database software including PokerTracker 4 and Hold'em Manager 2. PM me.

3: I def like your idea about the hand history reviews. What do you want to happen after all the replies are posted? I think it would be good to have the possibility to discuss the individual ideas (pros/cons, further going thoughts...) to get the best of it.

5: Even though I'm not a US-based player ( ) I'm a big friend of this idea. I think this could be helpful for players in Spain, Greece, etc., too.

7: You're so right about this! I know the same problem from other forums as well (not only poker-related ones). It's important to remind people from time to time that there are real persons behind the screennames. So every user has to be aware of his/her behavior. It could be helpful to look through the posts and - if necessary - edit/delete the ones that are problematic and communicate to the writer how to do better next time.

@3, I think discussion could just continue normally after the analysis is posted. That's the plan anyway haha.
