After opening and then reading the AA thread I had to write this.

Stop focusing on things that almost never happen. You know that it is 100% okay to always open fold a royal flush on the river? You know why? Because the ev loss of that decision on a your total profits is nearly zero.

While on the other hand call bu opens with 22 in sb to "set mine" will have a profound impact on your profits.

This in the same line where sure there very rare times where folding kings pre is important but your time is better spent analyzing if you would open 22-66 and AJo UTG (FR).

I like mental masturbation as much as the next guy but poker is not about being smart. It is about making +ev decisions. And it makes sense to focus your study time on small errors that happen often than huge errors that almost never happen.

StarGrinder is infamous around these parts
Okay, I'll +1 your post but accompany it with a rant... That fold AA thread represents the stupidity of bottom-feeding, going nowhere fish. The fact that the convo even went as far as it did leaves a black eye on this forum. Bury that thread, and bury the shovel. Anyone who starts a thread like that should be insta-banned for lack of a brain.

That AA thread made me think of starting a thread called "The stupidest fucking thread ever" thread but then I thought better of it!

edited: I hate the way I originally wrote this.

That's a really good point that very frequent small mistakes can hurt you alot more than very rare big mistakes.

kinda. I mean, really, we shouldn't be making big mistakes in big pots. But until we learn some basics we will be making these mistakes. And these mistakes ARE very costly relative to our overall bottom-line. Try and win at an ok rate when you're making a 100bb mistake every 500 hands. Agree with what that allLuck guy is saying tho

I love how those threads get a billion responses, while threads with tough postflop spots who's analysis could actually help someone's poker game go often unnoticed.

Sad but true d0zer. I know I am guilty of not replying to the really tough ones like you mention. If I am honest I guess it is more out of fear of being ridiculed for being such a bone head. I often work through them, or attempt to but don't post which is a fail on my behalf!
