BB was running 35/9/6 (only 25 hands) and MP2 was running 80/20/.6 (but that was only 5 hands). I liked JTs here because I could hit well and lay it down if it doesn't. The turn brought me a FD with a gutshot. I called getting 3:1 of hitting (I was sure that BB was coming along with) Checked to me on the river, I felt I had to bet to make the turn call worth it. Should this have been a check or a smaller bet or anything I could have done different really. And should the river have been a laydown?

i prefer to raise pre to isolate the MP limper if im going to play this hand.

as played, call on the turn seems standard. why would you want to check behind on the river?? can you not think of any worse hands either villain will call a bet with? im also never folding to his raise, your FD is kinda disguised as its a backdoo draw on the flop. he's taken a weird line, but i think this is misplayed flop/turn monsters a fair bit.

sounds like he had a higher flush. sucks, move on. nice hand.

limping behind isnt too bad. raising is a bit laggier than most people are use to

shove the river. i'm paying off flush over flushes all the time

yeah 10Js is a good multiway hand. but im happie playing it in position in a HU pot here vs MP who has play 4/5 hands so far and only raised 1/5.

raising pre also gives us the initiative in the hand - it gives us more ways to win the pot.

if we limp behind, we probably only feel comfortable putting more money into the pot if we hit a pair / draw, although we'll have to be careful as it'll be multiway (unless we gin the flop of course).

if we iso raise, we can take down the pot preflop if everyone folds. if we get 1 caller, we can cbet good boards and villain can fold - another way of taking the pot.

another advantage to iso raising is if we do hit the flop hard, we have already started building the pot on the earliest of streets.

 Isolating here in the CO seems standard to me.

I wouldn't isolate in the CO. JTs is not a very good hand, and you'll flop middle pair a lot of the time-- for most players, middle pair is a money loser over the long term (because you often end up betting into better hands with it). On the other hand, JTs is a great hand in a multiway pot, because it is one of the highest suited connector hands and the highest that gives you a full range of potential straight draws. (I could demonstrate the math on all this, but it would make for a very long post.)

If you isolate JTs with a pre-flop raise, you had better be VERY confident in your reads post-flop. Because you are going to need them!

I would isolate to buy the button and cbet heads up
as played I'd shove the river and hope he herocalls with a set
or that we cooler his lower flush
