Hi guys,
so this floorman at the casino i regularly play has seen my play for a while at 4-8, 6-12 and 9-18 and has been egging me on to play No-limit at a different casino where he plays. he says he likes my limit game and said that i should take a stab at it. so i did this weekend.
as you can guess from the title of the post went horrendous. i barely played 7-8 hands in 3 hours and got destacked 3 times. I have seen variance in limit a lot, but the feeling of getting DESTACKED is not that good
Hand 1:
40$ fixed buy in, blinds 1-1
first hand at the table ,
Hero is 4-4 in MP1
Preflop: hero limps, 5 people limp.
Flop: 3-4-5 suit not important.
SB bets 1, UTG+1 calls 1, Hero raises to 10, MP2 raises all in to 11, SB calls 11, Hero pushes all in, SB calls.
Turn: 3-4-5-8 (2 hearts on board now)
River: 3-4-5-8-A (3 hearts on board now)
SB wins with K-6 of hearts. so SB did have OESD and backdoor flush draw.
hero moves to 100$ buy in table a few mins later (my mentor told me to play the 100$ buy in and nto the 40$). he plays 300$ buy ins.
Hand 2: Hero is 7-7 in BB
Preflop: 5 people limp, Hero checks
Flop: 2-2-6
Hero bets 20, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls
Turn: 2-2-6-J
Hero pushes all in (maybe watches WPT too much !!, HORRIBLE PLAY by me), UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls. UTG+1 shows 2-2 for flopped quads !!
----------------
Hand 3:
Hero is KK in UTG+1
Preflop: Hero raises to 20, SB calls.
Flop: K-Q-9
Sb checks, Hero checks
Turn: Sb bets 25, Hero pushes all in, SB calls.
SB shows j-10 for flopped straight, hero doesnt fill up.
hero gets up after losing 2 buyins in 100, and 1 buyin in 40 and decides to play limit for rest of his life
Yes in 2 of these hands if i was playing 9-18 i would easily lose more than 100$ each hand but still the feeling of getting destacked is pretty bad. maybe limit is the game for me

Hey pokerfanatic,
I'm like you, I'm a limit player that knows a fair amount about no-limit and dabbles in it. From the hands you posted, you had lousy luck. From talking to the floor guys at my local casino, the NL games there are basically a bunch of trappers with a bunch of fish. Everyone set farms. That's not my game (BORING!!!), so I stick to the limit tables. If you can make a big bet or 2 an hour at 9/18, what's the point of playing $100 buy-in NL? Aside from a little variety and fun, you are not going to make as much money. The casinos I play at (st. louis area) only have $300 and $500 buy-in NL (state law <$500/2hrs buy in).

Xanadu,
I do all right in limit (not 2 bb per hour good caliber player yet, but still around 1.5 bb/hour). The weird thing is i saw some people making atrocious plays (in my eyes of course !!) such as where the big blinds were
3$ in 100$ buy in table, they were calling raises like 6xBB with JQo, one guy called someones all in push preflop with K-4o. people playing Q-10, K-10 out of position.
I would have lost more than 100$/ hand in the first and second hand for sure (in 9/18) so (my second hand play was atrocious, i dont know why i did what i did!!).
The thing that scared me while leaving the session that if I had gotten lucky in a few hands before and built a stack like 400$ or whatever, i still would have pushed all in on the turn with my KK hand and lost it all !!. In limit i can make some small errors like overplaying a overpair or whatever and get out of session ok
