We were all beginners to poker at some point and I think I can speak for many of the posters here that this site has helped our games tremendously.

As mentioned a GOOD first step is to read the stickies. Then, based on what game you are playing, go get a book or two.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.
