I've only ever played in 2 MTTs, but I remember in one of them, a guy went all in on the flop on the very first hand. Everyone folded and he took the pot. One of the guys that folded said that he flopped trips (but not top trips). I told him he was crazy to fold that, but he just said there was no way he was going to lose on the first hand.

Anyways, I guess thats kind of the opposite of what happened here. What do you guys think of that?

that sucks, golfer!

i was going to jump all over you for not betting hard enough on the flop, but with flushhead calling your all-in on the turn, STILL on a draw with one card to come, he wasn't going anywhere.

i feel your pain.

but since i'm here , i would have bet more preflop. i know you did 3 x BB, with with a BB of 20, no one respects that. and with the flush/str potential on the flop, i would have overbet it (maybe 500) to [hopefully] give them something to think about.
i hate what i have become to escape what i hated being...

He's crazy to fold that. Who cares its the first hand, if you have a chance to double up like that, you take it. You can't be scared of middle or bottom trips without a flush or straight possibility that you put them on, if you want to get anywhere.

And hell, I'd never fold that, but if ever there were a hand where it'd be the easiest call, it'd be on the first hand, where the guy going all in may just be a maniac and not even have any outs. Otherwise, a high pocket pair over the board is most likely.

I think it's okay to fold trips, when you know you're beat. But I agree that on the first hand of an MTT, you call with trips - you can't know you're beat.

With no flush possibility and no straight possibility, how could you possibly know you were beat? Two pair will bet just as aggressively (if not more so, since they aren't as likely to slowplay) as a set will.

I've laid down sets before, when I knew a guy was chasing a flush and went all in when it hit on the river. But on a rainbow flop like T82, you'd ever consider folding 88?

Played my first MTT today, was running bad and thought I'd go for a change of pace...

First hand 33. I call 50 of my 1k stack on the button, 3 to the flop. Flop is rags with 2 spades and it's checked to me. I bet 150, pre-flop raiser goes all-in, I fold, he shows AKs with the flush draw.

Never took down a big pot and busted out QQ vs KK ragged flop on a ~800 chip stack.

Ack, that makes 6 SnGs I've played in the last week. Not a single one ITM.

Could be worse you could have gone onto to sacrafice 4.5 hours sleep and finish in 19th place for $50.00 to a rivered ace while holding KK

I guess I should stick to FTR tournies. At least there I know if I push UTG with Ace-rag the range of hands that call are at least TT/AQ/ATs

The fish just don't appreciate my aggression...

I feel ya, man. I'm currently running 0 for my last 7 SNGs ITM. This following a streak of 5 of 8 ITM with three 1sts.

Poker can be so cruel at times. The other night I got my pocket aces on the button busted by the small blind. I tried to slow play it and he wound up hitting his straight. Oh well. Coulda, shoulda, woulda.

I don't understand why you overbet the pot and push all-in on the turn with two callers on the flop and the one card open-ended straight draw completing on the turn. Seeing as how it's the first hand, you've only invested roughly 1/8 of your stack, almost no hand that you can beat calls, and either of them could easily have a hand with a 6 in it, I think you should have just check/folded from that point on. With that ultra-fishy call by the JAs it's still a horrible beat, but you more-or-less brought it on yourself.

I went out on a MTT the other day within the first 10 mins. Dealt to me in EP AQ. I raise and of course there were 4 or 5 callers. One was named "LuckDog". Flop came A and two low cards (rainbow). Two checks in front of me so I push and overbet pot to take it down. LuckyDog had already doubled up once within the first 10 mins so he was playing a little loose. He raised me. I reraise AI. He calls and shows an AJo. YES! he is dominated! He rivered a J to knock my ass right out.
