Villain runs 11/8 over 40 hands. He looks positionally aware and has made steal attempts.
By my check on the river, I tried representing a two street bluff that gave up, or a jack scared by the flush, to give him the opportunity to bluff at it.
How could I have played it better?

I think you played it fine, except I would have made a smallish bet (about $1.5) on the river. Granted it's a small sample, but it seems as though villian is playing very tight and won't be raising on the river no matter what you do.

yeah I bet that river...

He's often checking a hand with showdown value like a set or worse. Maybe a lower flush too. Can't exactly put him on air here, so might as well toss out a 2/3rd on the river and hope he's feeling particularly stationey with something like the aforementioned hands
