OK, I was kind of going for a laugh w/ the "every time" bit, but seriously, 80/90% of the time? I see it constantly...

Do you mean if you raise say 4BB, they make it 8BB - or that they raise an unraised pot to 2BB?

When someone minraises like that I put them to be a donkey and call with my PP or SC in position and pray that I outflop them and take a stack.

I'd say roughly half of the time a random utg minraiser will have a monster hand, while the other half of the time it represents a marginally strong hand. Definitely not 80-90% of the time.

Yeah, this actually seems right. I guess it just always stands out when people do it. I will say that on Bodog it might be more like 75% of the time--I need to take a break from that site, it's skewing my poker worldview...

It happens alot on party;some people will honestly minraise AA/KK/AKs/QQ and then overbet the flop once they get their $3 pot.I usually call looking for a monster since they've priced us all in.

Minraise UTG is in and of itself undefining. It's player specific.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

I have noticed this too, but I put it kinda different for myself. It's not "minraise - uh oh he has AA/KK/QQ".. more like "minraise - be aware that it might very well be a monster". Sometimes it's really just a marginally good hand however. A few showdowns will make you all the wiser here, since people don't often change their habits.

Yesterday I bled a guy dry because I saw through his habit of "raising crap 8BB and continu to bluff it hard" and "minraising real hands". I added 2/3 to my stack because I called him down with AK on his hefty raises (river was check/check and I won with A high), and a bit later called his minraise with a suited gapper and hit two crappy pair and took the remainder of his stack on his AA. This was all pretty read-based, because in the latter case there were also flush/straight options so I don't normally put my stack on bottom two pair but in this case I figured it would be AA/KK (maybe QQ or overplayed AK).

And a special thanks goes to the smallstack who called him down on his hard preflop raises and clued me off to his weird habit!

anytime anyone open-minraises UTG they are a donkey. Thats pretty much all you can say. Ive seen it with AA, Axs, 66, JTs and all sorts. It basically means they suck.
gabe: Ive dropped almost 100k in the past 35 days.

No, it's usually something like KQ/AQ/AJ/AT/TTish trying to get you to define your hand on the cheap. I often re-raise these.

Anything wrong with doing this with small PP's as a blocking bet from a potential larger raise from the button with garbage?

Jsut raise normal with a PP-$1 and call any reraises looking to set and stack. No need to block bet preflop.

oh for gods sake

NL25, 100bb eff stacks

Fleury opens for $1 in MP with 22.

Lukie repops him to $3.35 in the CO with ??.

Who's getting the best of it here?

If you think it's Fleury, you are wrong.

If you think it's even close, you are wrong.

Believe it or not, you don't always win someone's stack when you hit a set.

Yeah, that and you don't always win the hand with a set.

Let's go back to my example.

Lukie is on the CO with AdKd.

Fleury opens for $1 with 22.

Lukie pot-raises to $3.35.

everyone folds but Fleury who calls.

Flop 2d 3c 8d. BINGO!!!

Fleury checks. Lukie bets $5. Fleury pushes all-in. Lukie calls.

Pot is $50. Just because fleury is a big favorite here (3:1), doesn't mean he should be entitled to the entire pot. He only has about 75% equity. He's put in $25 and has $37 equity, netting $12. In this instance, even given that he DID get it allin on the flop with a big edge, in hindsight, he still only got 6:1 in implied odds even given the fact that he got it allin, which he usually won't in this situation.
