First and foremost I'd like to preface this post with something that was key in my growth as a poker player and continues to be daily: my involvement in #flopturnriver. If you don't know how to get there, read http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...70.html#648370 where euphoricism describes the short, simple process. Also note that I'm talking about the new #flopturnriver, not the old evil one that caused chaos and martial law.

If you don't know, #flopturnriver is a channel on an Internet Relay Chat server where we talk about poker and bond as a community. For a number of people, it's very difficult to discuss poker in a forum/message board format. I should know, since I'm one of those people. I prefer to talk to people in real time, and that's why I'm in #flopturnriver like basically 24/7.

So here's your free poker lessons: come into #flopturnriver, and ask shit. We'll explain shit, and you'll get better at poker and make money. Holla.

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

Yup, different from the FTR chat room.

So do ppl actually talk poker in IRC? All the time or some of the time?

I can't connect at work (haven't tried at home). Is it possible something here is blocking it?

Quite possible I believe. I was having trouble connecting everywhere, but I just started hitting disconnect and reconnect a few times and eventually it worked. It picks a bad port sometimes for some reason, reconnecting picks a new one.

Other than that, they could have it blocked somehow within the network.
