It dosn't matter in holdem or omaha or stud.
:Ah: :Ad: ties with :As: :Ac: no one suit is better than another.

I suppose there are games, like say, hearts where the suit matters, but poker isn't one of them.

Hmm yea Im just bein silly and picky but there is one time the suits matter...
In 7 card stud the person with the lowest open card has to start the betting with the 'bring in'.. and if two players have the same low card then they are ranked alphabetically by suit (club diamond heart spade) to decide which is lowest.

But yea dont let this confuse you, in holdem the suits are irrelevant.

I had no idea, i thought they just went around the ring, the first of the low card went first.

Learn something new every day.

The ranking of suits is

In holdem, it is only used to decide which ace is the button but some rules are that you deal til the first ace to avoid suit confusion altogether. If you show down two royal flushes in 5card draw, they split reguardless of suit.

You mean the revolver, sir?

Wait a sec. When high carding for the button, I always thought it was this order: spade, heart, diamond, club.

And it goes back to elitist social structures when the cards were invented:
royalty = spades, clergy = hearts, merchant = diamonds, commoners = clubs
