Dont you just hate it when you have 3 or 4 fish at a table and get no cards to take advantage? You dont lose a bunch of money but you could make a killing. Key to being a good/great player is not to start playing bad hands to try to take advantage. As I am writing this I get KK on the Button and lose $40 to pocket AA (one of the Fish), man that hurts.
Holy crap I cant play against Yoda!!

I know exactly how you feel. The last live game I played was ripe for the picking. But I got no flop support. And one player would cal no matter what so some hands were taken because I couldn't risk the chips. Still finished second though.

Happens all the time. All you can do it put yourself in a position to get paid off when you catch cards.

One of my leaks is staying at a table like that too long after the fish bust out still waiting for cards...

That happened one night to me on Party. Playing 3/6 limit I waited over 400 hands to catch cards. That's $160 in blinds! I did manage to get paid off enough the few hands that I played, that I finished up just a bit, but the experience was excruciating. Now I figure when I sit down, if I don't get anything playable (disregarding position, betting, etc) within the first 3-4 orbits, I'm gone. Even if it's a very soft table. Sometimes the cards just aren't going to come.

A fish isn't just a bad player, well he is, but explicitly he is a loose passive player. Meaning he will call with anything. He will call with shit end of an inside straight draw with half pot to pot sized bets going out. In which case, you most certainly do need cards to beat fish.

I'm having this very problem as I type this post. I'm sitting here at a NL table with a complete and utter maniac and I can't seem to catch a hand when he's going after pots. The one hand where I turn the ace high flush, he checks it down and folds to my small river bet.

This is driving me insane. You basically need any pair to beat this guy. He's one of those "raise preflop then all in on the flop" kinda guys. He's trying to win every hand, but I can't seem to catch a hand worth playing to try and double up on him.

And what makes this table even jucier is the fact that everyone has started playing back at him, making some very large pots.

Exact same thing happened to me at a cash game at my father's Country Club. I went out the same way you did with KK to AA. The worst part is that it was my own damn father easing that dagger in.

It was some of the worst card playing you could imagine and I couldn't any help with the cards, and bluffing was not much of an option since there was always some dumb, rich moron willing to call you.

Patience is the key...

I was playing on a $10 NL table last night with a very aggressive fish that really valued every flop he hit. I watched him for a long time and it was quite obvious that he was willing to call anything down if he had a hand even if it was just TPTK (he was very selective with his starting hands but he couldnt let go of them). So just as I was about to leave (after waiting a long time for cards) this happens: I am BB and almost everyone limps in including this guy. I flop the nut straight with no flush draw and since I had to go I just decide to go all in. Guess who calls with only an overpair... Needless to say I doubled up and I was smiling for the rest of the night. Now I know this was a huge overbet but you would be amazed how much these guys value their hands. I guess my advice is simple, wait for the nuts and make them pay. I dont mean wait for the nuts preflop, just wait till you are a huge favourite post flop to get your money into the pot and theirs will follow. Fish don't know when they are beat...

True a loose passive Fish player sucks. One thing I've been doing lately is waiting until I have good playable pocket cards, then if the flop is good for me I bet about 75% of the pot. That seems to make things serious enough to cause even Fish's to be a little careful.

I am just sitting here surrounded by 9 fish at a 100 dollar buyin table laughing.

I just saw a three way all-in pot with four to a straight, two of the guys had a5 and a2, the other had the 10 for a straight, too hilarious.

I'm going to stay at this table all night if need be, cause right now i';m uust an observer who is paying blinds pretty much.

Yeah you just need to get the cards at the right time to get paid off by fish.
I get AA on the button at this $20 sitNgo, first hand of the game. First guy raises 2nd re-raises all in and a 3rd guy calls... First guy call too after I call. Best hand out there was AQo....
