Hi,
I am a primarily Limit player ($9-$18) who has moved to NL ($300 NL). I play at B&M exclusively. I moved to NL after getting tired of variance in Limit.
I have played NL so far only 135 hours in B&M. At the begining I saw so little swings in NL. However lately in last 5 sessions, its same story as limit. I dont know what I am doing wrong.
In last 5 sessions,
2 set over sets
2 flush over sets
straight over straight (2 card)
2 flopped higher flush over flopped lower flush
runner runner boat over flopped straight.
needless to say other than the last boat over straight hand, i got stacked on each one. I am missing the days of limit no LOL.
Do you guys go through these kinda swings in NL too? is it common. I thought these kinda swings happen in limit only.

Well there seems to be a number of people claiming that LHE has the higher variance and an equal number claiming that NLHE has the higher variance.
So obviously both get fairly swingy at times

Yep, if you get a bad run of cards and some bad beats then there is nothing you can do.
Yesteday I had AJo, and I decide to limp instead of raise.
(I don't think it mattered because it ended up heads up anyway)
The flop J4J
The villian goes AI, so I am thinking I am good here if he has anything but J4 or 44. So I call AI and he has 44.
I get stacked. This guy just came to the table , I have no reads, but how can I throw that hand away??? Maybe he had QJ for all i know, or AA, or KK.
Also to avoid losing with lower flushes, either stick to Ax suited or be willing to play cautiously and possible fold 2nd high flushes.
Sets over sets usually happen in limped pots with lots of callers.
Flush over sets, if you can see 3 of the same suit on board, then you may have lost, especially if the opponent is passive and now shows strength.

i think swings probably aren't as bad in no limit because cards don't matter as much
