Think about cashing out and calling it quits? Kinda feel like I could be doing something more productive with my late nights lately...anyone else?

On occassions I can feel like I'm wasting my time, but once I've not played for a month or so I feel the urge to get in there again.

Plus the money to be made is a nice bonus.

Like any hobby you'll probably have patches of being bored with it, but always return when you see the light.

with my current run I'm really close to calling it a day but then I think about how I'd feel if I just gave up without trying to fight through it and I remember how much I hate to quit

I was there. Played on-line for about 2 years. Took $50 to $1,600. Then after a couple even sessions (break even or losing-ish) felt like I had wasted good time doing nothing.

Have been out for about 6 months, getting itch again. Still thinking back to how it felt like wasting time, not going back. I'll stick with my home games.

We play every couple weeks in the winter, but not in the summer, so that's probably causing the itch.

I have felt this way lately, but I don't think I could just walk away. I enjoy the game too much. It all depends on what you are doing instead, and how you feel about the whole situation I guess. I mean, I like drinking, and I like poker. Together they hurt me in the wallet. So, I have to choose which one I want to do that night. Go out, or play poker.

The only time I've felt like this was when I was playing 10nl trying to scrape together a roll and pay off a $200 loan. That sucked so bad.

But I PWNINATED THE 10NL FISH and started moving up again. At 25nl or higher I can't really get bored because I make more money than I would at a "normal" job for struggling college students =P

I have no interest in discussing strategy with a protege'. Your job is to remain quiet and listen. I have a very systematic approach that I will share with the right candidate and I promise that I will turn you into a force of nature and show you elements of the game of poker that you never knew existed.

I was getting a bit bored lately. What did it for me is learning other poker variants. I have usually been playing NLHE turbo SNGs and the occasional MTT. Now I mix in some Razz, HORSE (I suck so badly at Studd) and 2-7 triple draw cash games and tournies. It keeps me from getting bored and really helps my overall poker game. (Playing Razz for 5 hours can really help you with patience issues for example. )

actually good point. Ip lay 5draw and some plo when i get bored although it doesnt happen much now because of the amounts of money involved even at only 200nl.
Having said that, i work now and dont get so much time to play which keeps my enthusiasm up for when i do get to sit down and grind

I do get bored. It's in my nature to get bored of anything after a while... hobbies, girls, environment, study, poker, whatever.

That's why I love travelling, seeing new places and meeting new people.

Heck, a couple of months ago I was even bored of dancing. Then I went on a holiday for 5 weeks and now I can't wait to get to my studio and move my feet!

My strategy to combat boredom is multiple games. Between PLO8, PLO high only, and NLH tournaments (I'm not good enough to win at NLH ring games at stakes that interest me any more... but I'm certainly good enough to be +EV in $30-60 MTTs), I don't get bored. I only do one thing at any moment, and when I get bored I simply switch. If I get into a rut or a downswing I switch games: I find it helps with mentally segregating the losses and starting afresh.

I've played over 36 hours of poker since last friday, all 8 and 9 tabling. I've lost 5 buyins.

I definitely got the "god i never want to play this shit again"

I didn't play yesterday, instead played a $10 buyin home game ring game (with .10/.20 blinds so everyone was playing half stacked) and cleaned 'em the hell out. So now I'm jonesing to play online again.

Breaks are good for your head.
<Staxalax> Honestly, #flopturnriver is the one thing that has improved my game the most.

I'm 6 weeks into playing nothing but SNGs and the occasional MTT, and not doing either in huge quantities. It's fun, it's low pressure, and I'm doing well. On the down side, I'm not sure how easy it's going to be getting back into the SHNL ring mindset again (though I am pwning 6-handed SNGs so maybe it'll be straightforward), especially if I don't start winning straight away.

I also want to figure out what I am in poker for. I am a winning player - just - at $100NL, but it's so marginal that I am contemplating just moving back ndown to $50NL, making probably more money in less pressured circumstances. But it seems the cowardly approach - how much do I want to improve my game and progress? I know I never want to be more than an enthusiastic amateur, so maybe I should just stick within my comfort zone.

Why did you start playing poker?

Perhaps going back to what first sparked your interest in the game will propel you to get back in the swing of thigs again.

O yea, breaks and other games are good too.
