So I am considered a TAGGY player (15 VPIP + 7 PFR) and have been trying to open my game up by playing more hands in LP (last 2 seats). I have 3 questions about this:

1.) What is your VPIP in these seats?

2.) What hands are you willing to play/not play?

3.) When would you raise with these hands (0/1/2 limpers)?

I am thinking that I would like to get my #'s up to 20-22 VPIP and 10% PFR. Is that too loose?

Thanks!

General rule is to play tight up front loose in the back.

As your position improves so does the value of you hand. I tend to raise heavier and more frequently in late position. I love raising a limped pot with marginal broadway hands or suited connectors (and sometimes straight up trash in a predictable game) when my position is good.

I also love to steal. I raise extremely liberally (ie. any two) when my position is good and it is folded to me in late position.

Best advice is to experiment in late position, try a session of raising EVERYTIME it is folded to you or there is one limper with any two. Your hand sucks most of the time, so don't overextend yourself to any opposing aggression.

AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE OPPONENTS.

Some will never fold to a C-bet when it looks like you are stealing. You may need to wait till the turn, or fire a second bullet if you whiff the flop. Some opponents will fold all the time, unless they hit. Some will play back at you when they whiff. Know them, know your image, and play accordingly.

Most of all have fun.

Just remember it is more of an experiment at first, rather than a strategy. But it should help you find out what you can/can't get away with.

I am roughly 19/7 overall, but my VP is about 27% on the button (and about 12% in EP) and my LP PFR is about 8%. I tend to limp more than raise with marginal hands - I will always play suited connectors, and unless there's a reason not to, suited gappers and unsuited connectors. I don't think I have found the optimal LP strategy yet myself, but I'm getting there.

Ok..Here are my results from last night using Pirate's advice. I played at Party NL50 5 Tabling.

17.88% VPIP and 9.35% PFR

950 hands

27% VPIP in LP

I feel like I can get still get looser. I think that 20/10 would be idea with at 30% VPIP in LP.

Thanks again for the advice Pirate. Opening up in LP adds a lot of excitement to poker.
